Hello Goodbye

A rosy glow adorns this morning’s sky,

today, we regulars pay our respects,

tomorrow, with an angel I will play.

A quiet bloke, he’d been around the world,

of Africa and engineering spoke,

of vintage motorbikes, and automatic cars,

the pros and cons of smart-or not-TVs,

of pacemakers, the NHS, and stuff,

and never took his little trilby off,

a different one from time to ...

Starlight

Shine bright

Roll the dice for me tonight

Lucky charm of the sky

Burning light-years high

Out of reach

Of my motorbike

Cruising under citylight

Starlight Ever After

Wild rattlesnakes wrestle with their shakes.

Slithering through the decay,

of a rusted red Chevrolet.

Roaches top the food chain.

Gargantuan size and strength

with razor fangs.

Everything turned prey.

You told me you want to die

in another time and place.

When and where the starlight

still shined through space.

Stars

Yesterday

I opened the windows of my room with the night

I let in the stars and slept in their time

    I knew their waning

When I awoke

My pillow was flattened with the weight of their time

My mind was present in the immensity of their span

    I knew their past now

Today

I curtained the new day in my room with the dawn

I breathed in time and dreamed of the...

The Mystery of Night

They say the night has a thousand Eyes,
It's beauty no one denies,
The nocturnal passing is cool and crisp,
The mind creates ghosts from a single wisp,
No man knows night truly,
Man knows it comes by dark and cooly,
It has a feeling of enchantment,
Beholders are usually lost in the moment,
The glazed eye that is the moon comes ever slowly,
In the dark speckled sky, people watch them longi...

Evening Thoughts

It brings me comfort knowing we're sleeping under the same sky,

Gazing at the same moon,

Wishing upon the same stars.

It makes me feel closer to you.

Poetry Prompt: 'Forever is composed of nows'

Just the right amount of squeeze

at my hip

of a lemon

on the pasta we craft for each other

of the sponge he knows I don’t like to touch when wet.

A tongue, a croissant, a bottom smack,

exactly when we wanted one

A well-timed tease, balletically treading that tightrope line

from this now, to the next, to the next to the next please

Heavenly Bodies

August is a great month for star gazers!

Fully clothed

With naked eye

She gazes upwards

To a moonlit sky

A mighty presence

Swiftly felt

Orion appears

Only wearing

A belt

She's waited here

Till an early morn

For his shimmering touch

On a summer's dawn

The hunter haunts her

As Venus looks on

But when sun arises

Her lover is gone

The Aftermath

Stars fall from the sky

And congregate on the ground to erect an ivory palace,

As bright as day, as searing as the desires

Entombed deep under the earth's surface.

It doesn't take nightfall

To lure them inside-

The eager, the crafty, the venal, the mortal.

Every nugget of their flesh blazes in the lambent lights.

Inscrutable power it gives them

As they undr...

Can You Hear The Moon Sing At Night?

Can you hear the moon sing at night?
A distant melody from the most dulcet vocal pipes?
Have you ever nestled in her crescent bed
Like the kid in the DreamWorks emblem?
My winsome lady
Dotes on me.
Her visage,
Part amused, part exasperated.
For she knows why I've come to see her again--
To steal the roux from stars, milky and fulgent.
To hoard fragments of the night sky in my wooden ches...

Astronomer's New Year

This old Earth has taken another spin around the Sun. (1)
The Solar System continues its endless circle in the Milky Way. (2)
Andromeda has come closer (3)
as the Milky Way hurtles toward the Great Attractor (4)

Welcome to another year, another turn around Old Sol,
as we wobble through familiar yet unknown deep space
and spend more time with the music of the spheres
that resounds silent...

Breathe Again

I step out into the darkness
with the sky lit above me
The orb has reached its full potential
and I am reminded of the beauty around me
The twinkling above is the same as it’s always been
but much brighter than I’ve allowed myself to see
Somewhere out there under the same sky
you’ve been thinking of me
and I can finally breathe again

The Poet Laureate reads...........

The Poet Laureate reads his commemorative poem on the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Royal Astronomical Society: BBC ‘Broadcasting House’ 12 January 2020

(Today 13 January, coincidentally the BBC reports the oldest matter from a meteorite 7 billion years in the making. It carries dust grains, ‘star dust’, formed before our worlds existed).

When I heard the lauded Laureate*

Afraid Of the Dark

How many times must I rinse off the moon

And unpeel the stars from my skin?

Have someone ask what were you drinking?

How many times must I try clinging to lamp lights?

Try configuring keys into shining beacons?

I cannot see in the dark

Yes, blackouts steal my sight

But when finished,

I wake up feeling feverish

And fear ferments and festers

The night can be sticky

Moments

Do you ever want to
hold on to a moment
because it feels divine?

A moment when the stars align,
and everything is fine.

A moment when you make peace
with your past, and your pain.

A moment when there is
no sorrow, no shame.

A moment when fear
takes a hike.

A moment when the sky is clear,
the air is forgiving,
and sun shines bright.

A moment when everything

In the frost sharp moonless night

with a quiet and mystic brilliance

Through the cold crystal dark night

silent echo of a whispered flight

Writer's Block

When you get writer's block
go for a walk

find a friend
have a talk

blow bubbles
spin a top

count stars
watch birds flock

whatever you do

don't stare
at a blank page

as the clock
goes tick-tock.

From Two Windows

At dusk

a pink moon

low over the sheds

in a cold clear sky -

ice blue, yet light

hiding stars

a leaf fall

the pond water stills

but does not freeze

Much later

that same moon

lights my bedroom

in the cold night air -

velvet black, the sky

glints stars

an owl flash

my blood chills

but does not freeze

One Step Closer

I'm running away scared
But trying to find the light
They hurt me too hard.
Standing here from this height
If I had the courage to do it
I could float among the stars
My chest forming in a pit, I sit.
I'm broken in two halves.

How did I get here?
I truly tried to fight it
Even kept denying it
I can't even hide it

I'm shaking but holding on tight
The ledge is sturdy but it's high...

Pastoral

For Gwen, Anne and Eryl

In that happy heady grass-green Spring of my years

A time of lambent lamb slow lamb full days around a whited cottage

Lent us space and ease beneath the sun long sky

Golden glorious hours together in a single thought

With close chicken scrape and distant herd

When the swallows dipped to the fly buzz

When the kite climbed to a gliding speck

LITTLE THINGS

Little things do really matter
It's never the big ones
It's those tiny moments that make all the difference
I'm staring at the sky now and it's beautiful
Like a child splashing paint
The designs I can't understand
But I can dazzle at what the stars have drawn
In all their glitter and wonder
The moon giving way, lying low
Letting them shine with wonder

Parallel Echoes of Love

In the long small hours of dark                 Through the later time of darkness

I pause and gaze out at the stars              As we lay entwined beneath the moon

Somehow the frosted ground                    The nightly scene now sacred

Sharpens the air and the starlight             Welcomes the soft moonglow

Which lights my very soul:                        Entering both...

If we are not here to behold it

What am I without the world

The life that I can bring from its beauty

Would I not just be another girl

The life that fades with her beauty

A new C word

Now there's a new C word in town

10 months in, the word CURED blasts free

In the same chair, same room by the same careful man

Where we heard that other C word everyone fears

This one is C for celebration

Not C for Christ no, can't believe it

A new day to celebrate through the onward years

A day as special as a birth

The C pebble dropped and happiness ripples spread and ...

Castor and Pollux

Castor, he ran- he was swift in the field,

With horses, they vaulted behind.

A brother to him, with a love so blood-deep,

Was Pollux, son of Zeus and divine.

Their devotion together, not one to be quelled,

Was tested when one half had died.

Then Pollux wept out, with his soul ripped to shreds,

And demanded they share the same sky.

Midnight Blues

Each night I fall in love all over again

With this world, this life, the things around me.

The darkness is inviting, I find comfort in its depths.

Many fear what the night holds, but I spend each day looking forward to the night.

Finally alone, able to strip myself of this worldly mess.

I am myself in the evening,

I come alive in the night.

The sun reveals too much, too many ...

The night is black.
The night is cold.

Oh how full shes appears tonight,

The moon.

she so shines bright.
All alone

she lights up the sky.
Some stars.
scattered near by.
Here i stand.
alone.
on this cold night.
To the stars and moon i look tonight.
The dark sea.
she splashes.
At my feet.
The silver sand.
she surrounds my toes.
Naked.
Oh yes.
I feel the breeze.

My Thoughts Are Stars

"My thoughts are stars I cannot fathom into constellations." - John Green
_____________

They all glow with varied fury
with raging heat, emitting light
Each a small piece of a story
or a character in the night

Some will capture brief attention
as they streak across my sky
Dipping in and out of focus
fleeting past my mind’s dull eye

A few twinkle in sheer beauty
in buoyant reds and...

Westway's dark

When day falls down

be mine

for the night

passes by.

You choose which

way we run

I can't choose more than one.

You got no sleep but I found my belief,

I found my belief.

The Westway's dark.

Please stay, don't fade away

Save us,

lone stars.

On a hot summers eve close to the twighlight,

Not for jealous purpose.
But to admire and applaud
What you were, so in love.

You a privileged woman.
How time is short

Love never dies as lovers do
It remains the same, golden.

Star Children's Dust
It's a wing. A wing from an alien space craft. Almost as old as time. Nothing but a relic now, a ruin. They used to steal people off Earth. Millions of them. Abducting them against their will. None of that matters now. Earth was burnt to a cinder nine billion years ago. Its sun went supernova. More powerful than they thought it would. Earth based science was basic. That w...
