Hi John, re 'boner'.

There was a polish lad called Walter in our class at school who use to brag that he always woke up with a 'boner'.

He ended up competing in the olympics......
I think he was a POLE VAULTER ??

I would say that shows versatility. The ability to do the big and the little - how you rate what come out of it, is up to you.

Thanks for your comments on The Cruet Set, John. I was interested in your family story about the Doncaster mining job. My wife's Scottish great-grandfather was blacklisted for seven years after the General Strike. It caused a lot of hardship in his family, and even a political divide. Then in his seventies, or maybe even eighties, he became a Communist councillor in his home pit village. There must be poems about both those relatives to be written, some day. Greg

The procedures are still there on the new thread - thank you both for your restraint on that. Recent difficulties highlighted the need for more visible grievance procedures. Now these are in place, there should hopefully be no repeat of recent events. There will always be kerfuffles on WOL - it is how we go about resolving them that needed to be made clearer.

Hi John - my thanks for reading and commenting on 'Good Dreams, Bad Dreams' - glad you like that. I used to keep a pad and pencil handy by my bed ready for any nocturnal thoughts or dreams - these days it is mostly a tablet pc I reach for instead, hehe. Best wishes, Dave

Which one John? Serendipity and Happenstance? It does appear - there's maybe a bit of confusion as some poems have been tagged serendipity and some serendipity WOL comp and maybe some just WOL comp. When it's time to vote I'll make sure all the poems are on the list. My fault for being vague in the beginning. But if you've written another poem for the comp then get back to me cos I ain't seen it.

Cynthia - no way! (Mother and son). And he is "gone" into that deep untroubled kind of sleep that young people seem to manage. And maybe that sleep symbolises the unreachableness of the man.

Ray - re last verse - I'd like to add something to imply that skin/flesh has a memory, as they say that water has. Not sure how, yet.
