I've never met a Gus, but my great-grandfather was Alfred Augustus - he stepped on a mine in 1917 in Ypres.

Thank you for your comment on BillBored, i initially was writing it inspired by an ex partner and how i kept focussing on his positives, but the more i read it the more i apply it to myself- a bit of an awakening. I am based in the South West, I don't perform anymore, I used to work as one half of a juggling duo and sang too. I have thought recently that it would good to try 'something' again in the performance field...however, whether I will feel confident enough to do this is quite another matter. I did discover recently that there is a regular poetry evening at our local. I have been toying with the idea of just going to 'see' what it's like.

Thanks Gus for spending the time, for your generous comments and for the valuable cash saving tip. As you can tell I have been idling my life away voicing some of my poetry. "Where do we go from here?" just read this- you have such a great mastery over 'turn of phrase', a very natural flowing way with words, you just don't seem at all frightened of 'letting go' so to speak and your piece was an enjoyable read.

I have just read your poem 'one step behind' and Iike the way it deals with change, i like the arrangement and I like the way you put 'the gaining...the poise'

one step behind someone, as you say a shadow. The submissive quality leaves you wanted to get level, someone you admire(d) is ahead, as though they are superior

I like this whole concept
