they were lonely birds
but exchanged no words
it was their desire
but weren't admired
the world was strange
but they couldn't manage
they sang in loneliness
but brought joy to the face
how could they unite?
and force the passion to ignite
but they remain delighted
as and when the scene of love was sighted
there is joy in silence
and cash it on when getting the chance
love is a divine gift
so make no shift
enjoy and try to meet
love each other and affectionately greet
it may pay one day
when you will have your sway

Love is like the flower
it needs kind showers
either from the rainy season
or from the kind person
love may blossom
and create room
for new things to emerge
and silently manage
love has no reason
to deny an access to the person
who is selflessly seeking a union
and offers to stay as the companion
give the way
and stay
as comfortable as you were before
you will never feel sore
it is a right moment
to present
your perspective
with an indicative gesture

I admire your tenacity, however you sound confused about a person maybe u need to voice your feelings directly to that person without others interfering and maybe it's all a question of timing. If the other person isn't ready or hasn't been prepared to hear your voice, leave it up to the universe. MADELINE. AND my prayers are with u, with your career and general well being. X

Welcome from me, too. I'm looking forward to more poems also. But - be careful not to post too many at once, as the average WOLer probably won't keep up. One-two per week is your best bet - to receive best attention to your work from a wide range of readers.
Just my opinion, of course. Like Anya, I think WOL is splendid.

Ooo did you? I'm in love with the west myself - heading back over in August, cannot WAIT. Dublin to Doolin then down to Kerry.
Peat fires are so damned HOT aren't they?! ? And the smell, mmm. Hey, I'd love to read the one you wrote for 'Scent Memories'. Perhaps PM it to me? Did you ever see the one I wrote about walking the Cliffs of Moher? I was out of my mind with panic that I'd hurl myself over the edge - it's a 'thing' for some people, and I try to avoid high places mostly, but this was so utterly heartbreakingly beautiful that I forced myself to do it. Amazing exhilarating experience, and I wrote one of my best poems ever afterwards.

Hi Laura. I too love a turf fire. I worked on a farm in north west Ireland for a couple of summers in my teens, and in the farmhouse we cooked on a turf fire. I also worked in the bog, gathering the turf - hard work! I recently contributed to a "Scent Memories" project, and wrote a piece about the smell of the turf fire based on those summers.

Thanks Trevor, glad you liked 'Killing the Piano'. You're right about the digital stuff - there's nothing wrong with them (I've got a few keyboards lying around my flat!) but there's so much more to a real piano than that.

Thanks for the comments on 'Killing the Piano' Ray, I'm glad you liked it. That one always strikes a chord (pun intended!) with people who play or who grew up with a piano around the house. It's one of those little tragedies of the modern world, I think.

Thanks for commenting Keith, and I'm glad you liked the poem. It is sad to see a dying art, and I think a lot of people who might not even play can relate to the loss of a piano.

I can't believe you found my poem from eight years ago! And, yes, it was one I totally loved writing and sharing. At that time I belonged to a 'poetry club' that encouraged writing in all genres. We enjoyed robust discussion together which included criticism, suggestions and valued encouragement.
So thanks again. And welcome to WOL. It's a great site.

thanks for the comments on 'pub quiz theory' Ray - just one more piece of modern living that I've come to despie - in my day it used to be called cheating - now if it gets you gold you do it - rather than take your natural place in the world.

thanks for the comments on 'ub quiz theory' Laura - yes, I'm bitter - because life seems to want to make things as easy as possible for folk these days - rather than test their true mettle - I know who and what I am - and I don't need google to answer for me

Thank you, Chris for taking the time to read my words - for the likes and the comments.
I've thoroughly enjoyed 'Northumbria', it's knowing-ness and it's internal rhyme.
I was born in Blythe but left (with my parents) when I was 4 1/2 to go to Africa. Returned with my mum in the early 70's to see her old home but wished we hadn't as it was turned into 5 flats and the garden taken up by a huge intersection. So sad...
