Hello Winston. The ghazal is from a poetry site called Poets Graves and was written by a chap called Ben Johnson, who despite the name, isn't famous.I didn't you - or anyone! - had such a passion for ghazals.

Winston. I've managed to create the link to th ghazal:

I buy them merely for the smells of books
and days disappear in the spells of books

In the sun with a hat and a hardback
I draw refreshment from my wells of books

As a teen my brain was aflame with them
I walked about deaf from yells of books.

For bullies whose brains get tangled with words
I pray there is reserved a hell of books.

At night I was lulled by the wave of words
hissing in my ear from the shells of books.

The notes scribbled by previous readers
genetically alters the cells of books

Faced by the mountain of the works of men
Solomon wished he'd not heard tell of books

The media insists our modern age
will create the final farewell of books

A trail of bent spines and scraps of paper
marks my progress through the pell-mell of books.

Exhilarated I rode the white whale
of Ahab through the turbulent swells of books

Oh Ben your sadly sagging shelves reveal
you can't resist the hard sell of books.

Thanks for comment on Crystal Clear Cynthia. I didn't actually use the word invisible at all though, so I don't see how there could be too much emphasis on that particular word. I was more thinking of something cold and clear and transparent as a block of ice. Not necessarily invisible. xx

Hi Cynthia

Thanks as ever for your thoughtful comment on 'Science Fiction'. I'm afraid Sale isn't a possibility. I play league table tennis and it's the club practice night. I beat everyone last week (competitive? moi?) which has never happened before. So, although Sale is tempting, it wouldn't be good form to fail to show this week.

Ann, I happened to read your comment to Pete, about 'secrets' in poems. I think that is a superb way to express it: every poem IS a secret waiting to be unravelled by the reader. I think it is often just as much a 'secret' to the writer. What a great observation!

Thanks for reading and thanks for the comments, it is much appreciated.
Cynthia, with most of my writing I hope there are layers - that's the way my mind works - things relate to each other in both an obvious and obscure way. I like word play, and thought play, and lateral meanings - it can be as obvious, or as deep, as you want it to be. I think with a lot of poetry the interpretation belongs to the reader, not the writer; as here - both Francine and Carole have seen different things.
Sometimes, you are quite right, I am literal and obvious, and I use poetry to try to cope with, or make sense of, things that are getting on top of me - sometimes people relate to that, sometimes they don't. But whatever my frame of mind, or my intention, or my meaning when I write something, is irrelevant to how the reader will feel about it, so why does it matter whether my intention was to be deep or literal? I am a multi-faceted person, I endeavour to make my work reflect that, sometimes it works, sometimes not.

Hi Cynthia, thanks for the comment on 'stone I own' as usual I'm never sure about posting stuff, also it looks different when you post it, I would like to take guidance on punctuation etc. I dont normally punctuate, with this one I did and its no good, so ill go and edit. I have recently been joining different poems together just to try somethin new, it may head towards a cut up idea, just to keep fresh. I seem to have lost the desire to shout at moment its all Love n stuff. Bestest . Pete xxx

Hello. Andrew Motion was Poet Laureate before Carol Ann Duffy. Rubbish, though!
As for "my thoughts are less angrier" if you say angrier as if it rhymed with sangria that stretches the metre a bit. But it's just a long joke really! Ta for your comments.

Hi - (sleepers) I've got to admit - there's nothing like a good night's kip -"la petit morte" as francine would doubtless?? say. I like the clip as he says that heaven lies (not in the big expensive things in life), but the things that are hardly anything at all - a song, a kiss, a party etc. x

Hi Greg The problem is he's booked well in advance. My plan is to bring it out early next year and that was the earliest he could fit me in. You think getting a book out is the big obstacle, but then it's very hard finding opportunities to promote it. I'll keep you informed. Be great to meet up at the Poet's Cafe. I think chauv'd means mithered/bothered. Clemt definitely means hungry - my dad used to use it and very occasionally you still hear it round these parts - though much of our dialect will probably die out with all the american tv kids watch - like the correct pronunciation of neither and either.

My dad also used to tell me if I was 'slating'. That means when your underskirt is showing beneath your skirt.Hope you don't mind me poking my nose in - it's a fascinating subject.
