Just read your poem of the month and very much appreciated it. Very fine work.

Thanks for your thoughtful comment last night. Still struggling with formal structures though & if there's too much struggle maybe it just ain't right! x

Good luck with the rest of the season - I suspect that Everton and Spurs will be vying for positions 5 - 8.

I don't remember seeing him play myself, but probably did as I used to catch them playing at the Sheffields and Forest from 62 onwards.
67 might hold bad memories for you but (2008 excepted) I think you've certainly had the upper hand for the past 15 years.

Hi Laura
Thanks for your comments on the recent train one. Glad it works for you. I agree that to get the reader to fill in the blanks is a good thing generally but the writting still has to have quality and sometimes its easy to loose that when you know the context yourself. Win

Howdy
I was all set on going to the Tudor on Thursday, but have been dying of some flu/cold nonsense, and would rather not ruin me first attempt at reading aloud by accidentally gobbing on someone :(
Will see how I feel on Thursday, but if not this one, then I will deffo go to the next. Ta for the reminder anyhow - see you soon

Could I just make it clear that Francine does indeed look like her extremely close up picture on WOL. Having had the pleasure of her company over the summer, I can assure you that she is as full bodied as the several glasses of merlot we consumed - and I don't mean she is fat either...
Sometimes one can be surprised to find that people are just who they say they are. I'm sure that somewhere out there - maybe in the wilds of Wales or France, there is an Ivor Bigun - though it's probably a certainty he's small.

Oh dear - humour is lost, when you have to explain it. I'm talking about me - though tongue in cheek of course. I only like pictures that are taken from a distance and out of focus. Not many people tend to put up true likenesses of themselves on here - that is the point I am making.

Nothing IS as it seems, particularly on WOL, Ann. You may think you see a beautiful young lady in red, in total control of her destiny. Others may say it's a old double decker, ploughing in circles round Piccadilly Circus....

I am quite used to the 'knockabout' humour for being both French and American...
I do not mislead, Ann - it is who I am - I have both nationalities, and spent many years in France.

Excusez moi le pun but Francine is a french derivative. She is also American and lives in the US of A - she would therefore be spared when the great french cull starts. I'll copy this to both of you - so you don't have to keep jumping back and forth. Allez Allez Allez!

Hi Ann (with apols to Izz for communicating via her profile). Curiously, I've just logged in for that reason i.e. to edit my comment by making a humorous reference to keeping Francine, because it occurred to me that she might misunderstand our knockabout Anglo-Saxon humour. I can't do that now, as your comment closes the possibility.
Well, I'm sure Francine will understand, as we certainly would hang on to her.

Hi Greg as ever thanks for your perceptive comment. This was one where I didn't really know if others would 'get' what was going on. I thought it might be a bit too abstract. I've been really busy for a while now (earning a living!) and I thought I had better bung something on. It's been a while since I logged on. I'll try to catch up with any of your own recent offerings, too.

Hello Ann. RE your comments about your work losing the element of fun as it gets better.
I suppose most of my humour could fall into the "wry" genre as I have always seemed to have been a good observer of life.
My problem with humorous poetry is that it all tends to sound too Pam Ayres or Roger McGough. Both of these are good poets in their own field but it is a very small field.
I suppose humour tinged with subtle irony, pathos, etc strikes a much stronger chord with me.
I still think you publish too early and need to sleep on the words. I can almost guarantee that you will review something. I always do.
Don't waste words either. I always think (unless a piece is sparsely pared) that every word should contribute something.
I try never to say eg. he looked, when there are a 101 ways to describe a look.
Anyway my tenpennyworth over. Graham.

Hi Greg, and thanks for your sensible comment on Vortexing. (Maybe I should write a follow up called Artexing!) I think since my Arvon course I've been working harder at my stuff and have more of an idea as to developing and improving. And I've had some really nice comments, making me hope I am on the right track. The only thing is, my poems seem to all be getting a bit low key, down beat, depressing, lacking in the life that they used to have. Getting too serious in fact. Do you think that this happens when you try to become a "better" poet? I don't want to lose all the fun! Boo Hoo! I'm going to leave this comment on Graham Sherwoods profile too, as I've found his feedback very valuable as well. And yes, I am very lucky living where I do! xx
