Good evening Lynn-I,m ever so grateful for your concerns and comments of course-its just that I,ve been pretty busy doing improvements on our house and doing jobs at one of our daughters houses in the Rhondda(South Wales)plus running up and down to see the other grandchildren in Abergele and yet even more in Northwhich. So to say I clock a few miles up each year is an understatement! I sincerely hope you and your family and 'The Benj'are all in fine fettle,so thanks again catch up with you tomorrow.Still no sign of Bernadette? lots of love to you-Stefan-xx

Thank you Andrew for commenting on the poem Be!which has recently had it's 21st Birthday and now has come out of the closet as a blue poem. Why blue, I don't know, it won't tell me no matter how much I threaten it with a huge and efficient rubber eraser. So it remains a mystery though I think it might have something to do with the equation a2 + b2 = b2 x a2 - n

Hi Dave,
Thanks for commenting on my poem Be! which was 21 years old yesterday so is no longer in a playpen and wants to be taken seriously. I try to make it understand with sympathetic comments like "You cannot be serious!" but alas to no effect. The poem wants to live with you as she's sure your a much better poet than me :(

Are you mutating into a post box Win?
Thanks for commenting on my poem "BE!" I put it upon the blogs after giving it a 21st birthday party. After some drinks it burst into tears and said it never met anyone any more and that I'd left it unloved in a cupboard for all those years and wasn't it time I introduced it to real poets. So thanks for being a pal to this poem, it really needs one and it hopes you visit again soon.

Do you know, I might well get hooked on haikus! I really enjoyed writing it :) I like the brevity of them

Afternoon Dave
Where I am now and where I used to be... now that is the wispy nagging teaser... not exactly an age thing and its not exactly melancholy... painless ..but it does get very close to hurting...
just 'wish me back' moments of a man who is getting homesick after all these years.
Thanks again for your well read critique.

That wasn't a criticism of your poem at all - it just sparked me off to think about where I found freedom - everyone finds it in different places, I guess. The secret lies in marrying someone who finds it in the same place - or doesn't mind losing it in the chaos... x

Yep - I knows about the formal 5-7-5, but it hardly trips off the tongue(for me anyway) - whereas a limerick (say) is the polar opposite - it still has a formalised structure, but has a singy-songy rhythm to it. anyway - I liked yours (and Dave's recent one too).

Hi Isobel, thanks for your comment on my recent poem. Much appreciated. I agree, freedom is in disorder as much as it is in order - often much more so, in fact. Perhaps the images I choose were too precise. I just took the word Freedom and thought what it meant to me - and where I felt most free.
Thanks again, Thom

I'm in Wigan, not a million miles away. How cliche is that? ha ha
Haiku is really meant to be made up of images and includes at least a season, scent or other of the five senses and be deep and meaningful (at least that's how i allude to them)
I just enjoy them for what they are.. a neat little poem :-)

Hi Laura, thanks for your comment on 'Poem.' and yes it does feel a bit strange writing very short poems. I used to practise with Haiku. Might re-blog a couple just for fun :-)

Hi Ann - I haven't had much success with the chat function either, it often seems as if you get a connection and then...... silence! Now while silence may be golden for some, I still prefer words, lol. ;)

Hi again
If I could have posted up the original, I would have - I kept it for ages, and only lost it when I moved house. I see what you mean about the rhyming being less strong at the end - I was trying to avoid too much obvious rhyme, as the Smoke poem had been that way and I wanted to experiment with departing from that a little :)
I'm having a bloody great time playing around with all kinds of stuff anyhow, with no techie knowledge whatsoever :D
I hope you enjoy the NMH album - you may find it takes more than a few listens to fully appreciate it. Bit of an acquired taste. It's quite a strange album, and is not what it first appears to be. Interesting back story to Jeff Mangum too.

Hi again. Yes for me using found words is great because you are using someone elses palette of words. The decision for me is how much you intervene. Do you leave it completely ramdom and rely on its quirkyness like some of Stevens recent postings or do you try and introduce rhyme for example like your last one and create something new. For me the tailing off is due to falling between these 2 approaches. A punchy strong rhyming end may have worked better. but hey... that is just me. Also remember the Neutral milk hotel album, Well i have down loaded it and will listen in the car soon. My deductions were merely google aided :-) Win x

Thanks for the comment on the shopping list Winston. I was only recreating a list I found years ago in a checkout bin, but am intrigued as to why you think it is less strong towards the end? (welcoming all constructive criticism, I'm no diva! I've only just started!). I kinda wanted it to degenerate and lose a bit of rationality, as that was the nature of the original. That piece isn't something I think I would have thought up by myself, unless I'd found that list, and it was only Steven's comment that made me remember it :)

"the paper boy"
Well... it's about the owner of Sky media, News of the Screws, The Sun, The Times, etc etc. Hence "Paper Boy" - who hailed from Australia. and was given to sacking 6000 at a time - a nice guy & I'm sure I'm being totally unfair... or maybe not :) pity about the cat photo tho - I thought it was rather Kute (and, like Val, there's nothing like a little grey pussy)

Merci, Isobel... C'est vrai que la liberté de l'esprit est la plus importante,
car il faut croire - c'est la perception individuelle (dans la plupart des cas)
qui décide si on est libre ou pas.

I haven't had chance to comment yet but I've been reading your new work with interest - they seem to be quite different from things you've posted before - a new self-assurance and maturity about them which is very appealing. Bit bogged down with stuff at then moment but I'll give them a proper read in the next couple of weeks.
Hope all is well with you?

And now to yours! I think your poems are getting really strong. Having read again the sestina I find it more and more impressive. I also really like Treading Water. The descriptive details are brilliantly controlled. I love the sickly air from the beet factory and the surprise of the abbey.

Hi Greg Your comments are greatly appreciated. I wasn't sure that these two would have much appeal to anyone else. The first one is very formal and the second one probably presumes a bit too much background knowledge about the weird conjuction of Islam and Ireland in my family background!

Hi Isobel;
easier answering you on here instead of the forum over editing.. the bit I told you about me giving one of the pieces to other vocalists in my band wordmusic is quite common for us lot as we swap it round a lot, and i have ended up reading other people's pieces before now... it is a great experience..
my new band (word music is on hold for a bit now)is operating on a similar level as it will be more moody and dark! lol x
