Greg - (Matapos) it is so kind of you take the time to comment on my work - especially as I put so much stuff on here - it is this sort of encouragement that gives me the confidence to post more blogs - thanks a million - incidentally I have visited this place but years ago and these thoughts are still fresh in my mind - another friend (not WOL)who did not know I wrote poetry was astonished when she saw this and that I had not mentioned my interest in the muse

Hi David. Thanks for your comment on 'Mackerel In The Bath', which in turn has led me to your work. 'On My Daughter's Conversion To Islam', especially, is a wonderful piece of writing.

Perhaps also a bit of word play with the 'sleepiness' theme.

I really like that change to the dreamtime, David. Seems to help it flow, and root it, too, if that makes sense! Probably not. But sometimes a small tweak can make a big difference, I've discovered.

PS should ave mentioned I've tinkered a bit since. Changed the biblical reference to a more appropriate Aboriginal one - which also shortens an originally heavyish line.

Hi Greg I nearly mailed you that I'd done another Oz poem. Glad you spotted it. You're right where the koalas are concerned. They're actually quite hard to see even if they're pointed out to you. We did a mini safari with this hippy looking bloke called Mark. He was really interesting and made us look at the landscape in a completely different way. The Australians pay lip service to preserving the koalas, but just get on with their lives. There are really quite small numbers of koalas left now. Lots get killed by domestic animals, and God knows how many were killed in the recent disasters. Unfortunately, for the little fellas they favour the S.E. coastal regions same as the majority of the people.

Dear Cynthia. I did blog 'Love is' once before, early last year, but got cold feet and deleted it within a few hours and before anyone had commented.
I enjoyed writing it, but I don't think it hangs together as a poem...it's more a collection of nice ideas.
You know, I've only just realised this moment that...
'Love starts with a smile
and becomes a wildflower
tucked behind your ear.'
is a Haiku. Blimey!
Winston, are you watching?
:-)
Thank you for your kind comments.
Jx

Thanks Cynthia for jumping into that poem about fading memories. I know I am not the easiest poet to read and I usually take the flack for that but I am deeply appreciative of your tenacity in grappling with the poem. Yes, it could be rain and it could be water pouring and splashing from an industrial tap. The simmering is the interaction with spending time in the baking sun and the splashing water that cooks and simmers 'memories' per se as they travel downward (with the help of gravity) and instead of pooling and puddling trickles away, thus fading off.... that can be a relief (ergo 'joy') or it can be a tragic reality of aging in an often uncaring world. Of course there is much room for interpretation as I aim not to tightly word my poems so as to restrict readers to an intended meaning. I am only too happy with a reader's construction from the verses as they work themselves into an individualised awareness and realisation. Again, thank you.

Thanks Jane for your read and comment. The curious thing about "joy" in this poem stems from two things, the first - it is an inversion that allows stark contrast to the tone and feel of the poem, and second - there is a maudlin tragic joy, a sort of fool's consolation vaguely alluded to but not emphatically espoused by the poem. I am quite pleased that you picked up on that seeming contradiction. Whether intended or not, it allows for the reader to make their own conclusion.

so ill send you mine n you send me yours oooer

Great ;) It was such fun making haikus
I meant to share this with you but forgot
Catcher
Then all at once a scarecrow
appeared on the page
to thwart my attempts
at making sense of the words
penned by a sage.
A piece cobbled together
bolted shining shards
each image surreal
ached me to feel her soul bared
in lines sharp as swords.
It's nonsense of course, she said,
a glint in her eye.
There I'd been, searching
deep for the meaning, absurd
to be caught in the wry!
My way of saying thank you for sharing so much of yourself, your time, your knowledge and your poetry...
Much love
Petrova
xXx

Hi Cynthia
Thanks for your comments on "Sunday" and to answer your question I haven't been to Africa but have seen enough nature programmes to appreciate it's stark beauty and that of the seeming savagery of natural law which we humans often deem cruel.
Glad you liked it and as always your feedback is welcome and appreciated. x
