Hi Cynthia - thanks for the comment over 'lost shadows' there was a typo on the last line where servants should have been said instead of the second shadows.. must have been more tired than i originally realised when i blogged it before.. oops... but anyway, glad you liked it.. i wrote it under workshop conditions so it was wrote pretty quickly, and considering i am delighted with the end results.. hope you are good x

Hello Greg
Thanks for the comments on Betty's. You're right about Harrogate. I think it was the original. There are about 5 now though, with 2 in York. You're also right about the genteel ambience. I imagine Betty's to be rather like the old Lyons tea houses - not that I remember them of course!

thank you Greg, yes, thinking about that little bit of heaven on earth that is a bluebell wood here in the Dales did help. I took mum some bluebells from the garden into hospital but don't think she was able to see them as she wasn't really conscious of much but who knows? maybe the scent of them reached her, i hope so. I like that tune very much too, i used to play it on the flute (an old wooden one ala Matt Molloy style)thanks again,Debx

Awww - thanks for using my piccie John. Who was that other geeser trying to hog my limelight? If I remember rightly that was the slam last year - one of the best nights ever. It's hard to pick with the Tudor though - so many great nights... Even on a flat month, it's ten coats of paint better than any other venue. I think having a proper stage and sound system helps - also the room not too big/too small and the atmoshere that buzzes from the rest of the place. And of course you can't forget the no nonsense, tell it like it is, unpretentious poets that go there...

Hello Isobel

Thanks for the comments. Much appreciated. I'd been reading the discussion about poets keeping their photos up-to-date, and felt compelled to act upon it. Blame my artist friend for apparent grubbiness - he does put some odd colours into those skin-tones of his.

Nice to hear from you. I hope to return to Wigan one day, if Mr Togher will have me back.

Hello, Jeff!
My English is not better than yours and can't be. There are some things in the language that I know for sure, but... I still make a lot of grammar mistakes. My oral speech is just horrible because I have no practice. My written speech is a little bit better as I have more time to think. But..., anyway... Could you do me a favor and have a look at my site?

It sometimes seems to me that I am like a computer - translate from Russian into English, but...at the same time my poems I write in English when I think in English.
With warmest wishes, Larisa

If the carlos book you were reading was the first - the Teachings of DJ, then, yes, the last part is shite - but it was not meant to be entertainment, just a write-up of a PhD dissertation, so it included all the boring stuff at the end. His second - A Separate Reality - is one of the best IMHO. They really did (utterly) change me + my life... but if it's not your thing...
Another "must read" is "I'm OK, You're OK" by T. Harris, which I know sounds like typical Aymerican psycho-babble bullshit, but is (IMHO) nothing short of amazing. In a nutshell it's all about how peoples minds work & how to make your own life & relationships better by understanding this stuff (ie how your own psyche and that of other folks all works = we are not all the same)- another life-altering book. just my 2 cents tho !

Thanks for comment on Ohrwurm Dave - yes, 'earworm' is a loan translation from the German ohrwurm, so an interesting word all on its own, never mind the poem itself. The poem seems to be introducing earworms all over however - I did it to myself last night and was Hawaii Five-Oing all bloody night.

Hi Laura - re: Combustion again, yes there were definitely some hiccups in the series SFU like the woman who after a post mortem supposedly died of choking and yet was shown on TV stretched out on the slab without any cut marks but it was grand series in spite of that

I love signing in to see you've posted a comment on something I've done. I really makes my day.

My Sunday editing really has cut down on a the quantity of material I have been coming up with. I don't write anything new at all on Sundays, and only work on two poems. As you can see, I went from posting about a poem every other day on here to see what you guys think to posting about one a week. I don't think they went over very well though, no one made any comments on them. Still, I'm going to try to keep reserving my Sundays for just one or two poems and really try to squeeze everything I can out of them.

Thanx Larisa, will have to do that! I've never been there or Ukraine, but know someone of Ukranian decent very well lol. I've heard Odessa is a lovely place and I'm sure the girls are too. I've been to the Gambia, but don't know any Gambian women as well. I wasn't comparing the Ukranian girls in preference to other eastern countries, all very nice, but (your fave word lol) will take your word for it. I'm glad you approve of my use of 'the', thought I had cocked it up! Your English is better than mine! Thanks Jeff X
