Hi Anthony - thanks for comment, I was, of course, enough rock and roll to make up for it!

Hi Cynthia I'm glad you're keeping up with the postcards. I did worry in this one that I might come across as a bit dismissive of 'ancient wisdom' - however, the context is ironic. It is after all tragic that civilizations that have roots going deep into ancient philosophies couldn't do better than murder each other for decades. Even BUddhism in SRi Lanka can be quite militant and bloodthirsty. I suppose also there is the ironic contrast between the bluntness of the Customs sign - which I must say was really disconcerting (even though I've never touched an illicit drug in my life!) and the labyrinthine complecity of the philosophy of the Indian subcontinent.

thanks for your 'welcome' comments on my new profile page (3rd Jan)- sorry it's taken a little while to respond, but I've been finding my feet around the site and trying to understand the etiquette of posting/blogging/responding etc - and where and how to do it.
Took up your suggestion and started to blog some poetry - and it's getting a few responses - so thanks again for the tip
Ian

thanks for your recent comments on my poem 'Vermin'. Interested in your suggestion to change the 'tossed in the air' wording, as my intention was to keep each line to 8 syllables - I'm never sure whether words like 'tossed' count as one or two - in my yorkshire diallect when read aloud it's definitely only one :-)
I'm new to the WOL community, so not sure on the etiquette for responding etc - thought best to comment on your profile page rather than on the blog entry. Anyway - went and read some of your work on your profile page - liking it - particularly like the blog post this evening - thanks once again
Ian

Hi John, I had two pictures ready for the 'Snow Job' the other is a bit of a give-a-way since it shows a giant snow foot! Bit too obvious. This excited one from 'USA' seemed far more rude and therefore possibly captivating. It gained your attention anyway! Carry on with the wonderful songs and things, We all love 'em to bits. ta for comments, ta muchly, nick

Hello Yvonne,
Glad you liked Old Ladies.
We had a Festival for the Over 50's in York last year where I did a spot of 'poetry'. (I was, in fact, over-qualified for a Festival of the Over 50's.)

Well spotted, Cynthia, trouble is I keep re-ordering them each time I do a new one. When I get around to it I'll have to retitle them on this site too. I must say WOL is great in enabling you to post a poem and an appropriate image - which can then be re-posted on Face Book. Technology is really great these days! Didn't have all that in 1975 either!

Hi Cynthia Thanks so much for the encouragement re my 'postcard'. I wasn't sure if they be of any intetrested to others. I've done about 18 so far and have really enjoyed using a form that is very short, but enables you to use some quirky little memory, but then open up a pathway to something bigger. THemes are also beginning to link them up as well. I'll keep you informed!

Hi John,
Thank you for the compliment - I don't have the means to do audio on here but these tales do originate from live performances of 'Hunting The Great White Prawn'.
Them sailors and their Rum ration eh?, they treated it as gold dust by all accounts!

Hello Harry,
I see you've been rooting through my back issue!
Yes, this is one I did when I came over last year. I thought I'd give it a re-post along with the triolet poem we chorused.
Hope you're keeping well and pleased to see that we have both been spared for another year!

I googled those Brooke Bond cards and the bubblegum flags also. The link to the BB ones is above.
It was like seeing your best mate from the infant school again but without any embarrassment about what to say.
Somewhere in our brains I suppose we park these familiarities and the emotions associated with them.

Thanks Isobel for your kind comments on my January Fairy poem. I remember those christmas cake decorations! They always seemed to have traces of last years icing stuck to them! We had a father christmas climbing out of the chimney one, and those brushy christmas trees! I was a child in the 50s and the fairy I visualise would date from those times - certainly seemed more innocent then. Simpler anyway!

Hi Chris, I haven't seen much work from you in recent months but my guess is that's my fault. I have become a dad again for the third time and I have been busy tending to my baby daughter who is now some 3 months old.
Thank you for the comment on Out of Darkness. Yes it is to do with disability, without elaborating too much, the disability I thought of is Autism. And its effect on people who suffer this. However, I am not happy with the referral to a clowns status in her enlightenment but, as a poem that I thought would be a little different, I am happy with it I suppose, but then, all we poets can be our own worst critic.
Happy New Year to you!
Stay well.
Mike
