Blimey I am not surprised you worry..that long?..Is there nothing that can be done?..I do know that you can make sure you receive no with-held numbers a message comes up to tell folk that if their number is with-held they will not be put through. (that is if they are calling from a with-held number obviously.) You may want to try that..it would save you and your family having to deal with any more..Anyways good luck.

hello MC...thanks for the comment on my latest...rarely do I do political poetry..it bores me to distraction. One my face book page I actually put a comment about wanting to write about bears, then all the gumph happened and Mrs T was everywhere..but I must admit I do not mourn her passing. Again thanks for your comment. :)

No offence taken at all. I was annoyed as you were trying to read and somebody was going on and we couldn't hear you.
Look forward to seeing you both soon.

Just to reassure you - I don't think there were any hecklers as such, at the last Tudor.
There was one lady talking very loudly in the corridor, seemingly unaware there was a poetry night going on right next to her - and there was a very drunk local standing by the gents. I'm not sure if he was meaning to shout encouragement or whether he was just very drunk and shouting for the hell of it. That's a bit of an occupational hazard of performing at the Tudor - for me it's part of the whole charm of it - no month is ever the same :))

Hey Louise,
Great poem/performance at the Tudor - me & Natalie both thought you were really good. Kinda suprised given you said performing might not be your thing.
Real conviction and a sort of "history of our days" vibe - good stuff.
I hope I didn't cause any upset when I was on. The lights were pretty dazzling on stage and I couldn't see - just heard what I thought was one of the hecklers. Natalie told me afterwards you were telling one of them off for me...so sorry if I said the wrong thing.
Hope you read next time out.
Best

Aye, Merry Hell are playing Wallasey this Sunday chuck. I don't think I'll be going along as will be having a late one Saturday supporting John the Baptist in Wigan. Will be needing me kip before work on Monday :) I know Bob would love to see y'all there though :)
You are bang on re John Smith. I was absolutely gutted when he died. For me, that really was the end of a genuine Labour party. It's been a sham ever since - not for the working class in the slightest, it's in name only. For 'New' Labour read 'Blue' Labour.
Aye, thanks for respecting my views, and you know that I always have time for yours, because I know that you do actually sit and think these things through, you do actually research stuff, and you form your opinions based on that research and thinking. I get so bloody tired of people regurgitating nonsense all the time!
Take good care anyway - hopefully see you and Nat soon

Hi Harry
Thank you for your considered reply on John's poem - I'm going to reply here now as he has posted another poem. I acknowledge and respect your direct experience and history - thank you for your insights on a particular era in the unions' history. I was aware of the ballot issue. I will still have to agreeably disagree about the loss of manufacturing jobs, mind, and don't think you can make that comparison with Blair - it's a different kettle of fish completely. I don't believe for a second THEY caused it, I have enough knowledge on that score. You can however make a direct correlation between Thatcher's part in the deregulation of certain banking practices and the financial collapse.
Amongst my social circle, she was despised over the Falklands debacle. It seemed to us that it was the right wing press that were glorying in it (that'll make a change then!).
I'm not keen on your use of the word 'shameful' underclass - seems to be rather judgemental, that term. I would agree however that we would not be needing in-work benefits if people were paid an actual living wage instead of a pittance. It's that same old Money Trick yet again. I don't think Robert Tressell would be too shocked to know that it's still going on, as strong as ever.
Your last couple of lines made me smile by the way :)
Hope to see you at a poetry event at some point
Take care
Laura

Hello Pete - I go along with writing "off the cuff" as it were. Often too much thinking at the outset can interrupt the "flow". However, once the main body of the poem is set down, it is a good idea to go through it - and more than once - to see if some judicious "editing" might improve the odd word or line. Nothing wrong in that. The theme of "Shadows" is touching - and its execution is excellent. One of my recent favourites on this site.

Chris - thank you for your considered comments on my post "Thatcher - In Passing" - both content and style. The "Sick Man Of Europe" tag remains with those of us old enough to know those times and the seemingly endless days of confrontation and strikes are still strong in the memory, with one industry after another slowly dying from within; and from without, as newly emerging economies offered competition we couldn't hope to match. We had to change, adapt or die. Go back a couple of centuries...to the glory days of our famous stage and mail coaches - eventually faced with oblivion as the various railway companies - with parliamentary backing - arrived to offer mass public transport. What, do you suppose, happened to the huge numbers of people reliant on the coaching trade? Was the PM of the day rubbished and were there efforts to bring the country to a stand still? Inevitably, as so often happens in progress, the mighty railways saw their own days numbered with the growing freedom of the private motor car and then the motorway. I ask - did they "destroy" this country or even parts of it - or were they necessary to secure the place of the country in the modern world? Ironically, the railways via the TSV/Eurostar, have since regained some new relevance/importance. Maybe, in time, our industries may also achieve some resurgence. What goes around, comes around. In the meantime, we should continue doing what we do best - invent, create, co-operate and sell! Cheers.

Thx for the feedback on the 'Nothing Left' poem. We differ greatly politically...but I do appreciate some of your political points and have left a long windy comment on the poem's blog.
I wish I could write in a more laconic style outside of poetry - but prose writing is not my forte. Hope the explanation of my political feeling comes across and you can see why I feel as I do.
Ta muchly for reading and commenting.

JC - thanks for the courtesy, especially as I can appreciate your own situation - both physically and career-wise. No one can doubt the achievements and importance of unions. Regrettably, a great industry was taken for a one-way trip by less than honest political leadership. I have a friend here in town - retired from London Transport (mechanical side) and he is scathing about the prevalent union leadership in his old job - no names, no pack drill!
Personally, I accept being abused as a sign of a paucity of worthwhile argument from the abuser.
Cheers.
