HOW GLAD I AM

How glad i am that I happened to be

In the England I knew and used to see,

When roads and lanes were mostly free...

Hurrying home from school to tea.

How glad i am that I used to know

Those places where I would come and go,

Up hillsides high...over bridges low

To see my England on daily show.

How glad i am to recall country air

Like champagne when cycling everywhere

But never so rushed that I couldn't stare

At all that waited for me to share.

How glad i am to hold memories fast

Of all that saw my maturity cast,

And how that gone-forever past

Will live as long as my life will last.

Yes, I miss the green fields of England, the hedgerows, the green leafy tunnels, the crooked High streets with 400 years of architecture.........

.......but not everyone living on top of each other
