I FOUGHT THE LAW AND THE LAW WON

entry picture

I lied to the Queen’s the allegation

In Parliament’s prorogation

I lied to the rest of the nation

I fought the law and the law won

I fought the law and the law won

The verdict of the court wasn’t close run

Eleven in favour and Against None

I acted like Attila the Hun

I fought the law and the law won

I fought the law and the law won

I thought I’d win when the spin was spun

Acting the fool and simpleton

But this is a kick to me abdomen

I fought the law and the law won

I fought the law and the law won

My plans I might have to jettison

And leave as PM before I’ve begun

But I’ll keep my word as an Englishman

I’ll find the ditch if you bring the gun

I fought the law and the law won

I fought the law and the law won

Thanks for you further thoughts, Don and Becky.
My rationale for saying that we and not the politicians have caused this mess is this. (And when I say “we”, I mean half of “we”). If Remain had won the referendum there absolutely no question that we would not be where we are.
And no-one knew what “Leave” meant. And they still don’t now.

Nod to Becky and Charlie Brown

Am I in charge of this country?
Sure am, am educated and wise
I know how to count on my fingers
Just don't go above 10......

What's that pleb? long multiplication you can do?
What's that, a computer you use?
Don't need fancy technology to run place
Fingers will work fine,(them I choose)

No I won't teach you to count on fingers.... pleb

Who's he talkin' about?

In response to John's response to my comment... Ach I dunno. It's still tempting to blame David Cameron's ego and arrogance for starting this whole Brexit mess off. But I guess you're right, parliament is divided because we are... But then, true democracy can only exist if people are educated enough to be able to think for themselves, able to see through fake news and all forms of media manipulation. And I don't see any government racing to provide that level of education to everyone.. What's that Charlie Brown cartoon: "no one is going to give you the education you need to overthrow them . "

I stare in amazement from afar
(10,000 miles flying Qantas air)
I thought I'd just throw in this trivia
To add to your comments, my share

At the moment your country seems rattly
Is Boris 'tween a rock and a hard place?
He's reached to the pinnacle of his reaching
Will he end up with egg on his face?

Willy ?.....

Dunno..

Er.... that’s right, Greg. It’s my backing group, Coopey’s Groupies, making a balls of this; not me.
And how can we blame the politicians for being divided over this, MC? They represent us. And we are divided.

You seem to be fighting a losing battle against your backing group at some moments on this, John. I've recently learned that this wasn't a Clash original, as I surmised, but written and recorded by The Crickets in 1960, just after Buddy Holly died. Alerted to this by Tony Walsh on Twitter.

But I don't like to see a clown like Boris Johnson associated in any way with a great song like this. He'll always be Billy Bunter to me, hatching plans that never work, and vainly waiting for a parcel or food hamper to turn up

Too simple, JC. Back in the day even when there was profound
disagreement in "the establishment" about how to deal with a certain problem that faced this country, Parliament and Government got together to "speak and act as one".and the deed was eventually done.
That spirit has faded into obscurity and words have become what
"they" (and I include lawyers) decide about their meaning according to circumstance.

Thanks, Becky. I must be one of the few people left who is enjoying all of this. And I don’t buy into the view that politicians have caused this mess. We’ve caused this mess.

This rocks! I love the art of parody. Although I wish it would stay in songs. The whole political shebang seems a joke at the moment.

As hot off the press as I could rush it, MC. Should Boris take it to the European Court of Justice?
And thanks for the”Like”, Emer.

Reliable and as topical as ever.
"Parliamentary sovereignty" featured in the deliberations of the legal
minds of the Supreme Court yet never did they think to explain
how it can exist when the same is signed over to other powers
- and, how it can be used in this context. What is parliamentary
sovereignty without a nation's own jurisdiction over its borders, seas, trade and laws?
Answers on the back of a postage stamp would probably suffice ?
Roll on the next election. Meanwhile - on with the motley!
