Putting Him Away, a Poem by O.L. Buzzerd

I don't get invited over

much anymore

I guess the word got out

I can sometimes be alarming and

I tend to put people off

sometimes my humor is odd

and hard for folks to understand

a lot of times they don't get it

but go along and laugh anyway

because they don't want to offend me

people are polite thataway

they make allowances for

old geezers

who tell dum jokes

they laugh but

all the while they're thinking

how soon can we

put him in a home

they better look out

and remember this

I won't go peacefully

I'll have to be sedated.

-O.L. Buzzerd

( for the time being, still a free man)

Highly readable and laudable in every way. I assume you share that humor you mention, if so I applaud it too. Here we have a true essence of the wilder side of America, highly unlikely in the UK.

When "they" seek to put you in a home
They take away your right to roam,
And other things that are denied;
All justify "them" being defied! ?

d.k.,

We seem to have more in common than I first thought. A good poem. Stay your ground. Nor shall I go peacefully.
Thanks for this

O.L. Buzzerd is a retired poet living in West Texas
in a trailer with a mongrel dog, a stray cat and
a goat named Drunk. He likes to sit on the porch and watch
the buzzards circle over the mesa. When he has to go into town
he has to get Drunk first.
