There is only one

There is only one

Occasionally when a moment of silence arrives

I pause for a time of deep reflection and lost hope

Through the corridors of my mind

I seem always to arrive in the La Plaza

which is embedded in my mind as an ageless painting

The sun shines as people promenade

beneath the fronds of overhead palms

Children with cornets, some on their fathers´shoulders

the sun filters its rays on this idyllic place

I sit in my usual seat and people watch

until my attention is distracted

He walks along alone neatly dressed

unobtrusively meandering on his way

I follow his progress not out of interest

but captivated by his sheer attractiveness

His features are rich in their masculinity

not outstanding but pleasing to the eye

Closer I see more clearly blue eyes, a firm chin

stockily built yet possessing a certain quality

I cannot withdrew my gaze instead it intensifies

not a single word is spoken between us

But there has never been another

no substitute to blur my memory

or to take away such a precious moment

Could it be that I fell momentarily in love

If not why such an abiding portrait

which constantly inhabits my mind and fills my heart

with a deep and perpetual longing

Beautifully put, and so well written. There are moments like this when one unknown person appears special to us alone.

Martin, thank you for your comment. It is as if the mind actually takes a photograph or a video for future reference, the quality of which never seems to diminish. Keith

It always amazes me that we can capture such moments of our lives with as you say such pictorial quality almost as if they were yesterday.

Beautifully written Keith
