A Friend called to say......

A Friend called to say.....

From the determined and resilient

a feeble voice came from someone I love

From a dear and faithful soul, a lament

who had reached a darkened moment

I no longer possess any reserves of energy

without any dramatic sense of urgency

My zest for life has begun to ebb away

I cannot muster thoughts along the way

I am not afraid to die you know that

the time is approaching to throw in my hat

A telephone has been placed beside my bed

I can reach the receiver which is close to my head

I may need a shoulder to cry on

or say a few words off and on

Would you mind if I called you my dear

as you are good to me and always near

----------------------

I am suspended by expectant grief

another time of waiting

Will the next call be from her

or another´s voice confirming my grief

She is 96 years old

and I love her dearly
