Damage Done Never Forgotten

Damage Done Never Forgotten

Stupid things I've done in life

Things of no damn good

Scream out “Please forget me”

If I only could

You see I haven't practised

A saying I should know

Damage done never forgotten

Memories never go

An argument with neighbour

Didn't turn out good

10years! “Please forget me”

If I only could

A 40 year-old argument

With neighbour down the street

Mind says happened yesterday

Still tension when we meet

These memories still scream

Scream “Please forget me”

It will not work, they're there for good

And will forever be

What am I saying to you?

Be mindful what you do

Memories are permanent

They may come back, haunt you

Hi Don, Enjoyed this. Unfortunately we've all got memories of things done or said we would prefer hadn't happened.

The years roll on and wisdom moves with them The fact that you
recall and regret should also be considered a double blessing for
being able to do both. Centuries ago, an author whose name I
almost forgot, wrote "Conscience doth make cowards of us all" -
and it merely shows that humanity retains the ability to think and
act upon such things with no time differential to affect that ability.
Maybe it's intended to help prevent us repeating the same mistakes.
Sadly, not always successfully.

Oh yes, how bad decisions haunt the mind. I tend to convince myself I'm the only one who remembers. A small and possibly false comfort. I enjoy the poem and the relatable struggle to forget. Thank you for it.

I guess you're right. It's me who chooses to hang on to the bad memories. Forgive and move on. Life's too short.

Very well written, Don, and so very true! I know the feeling but as Dorothy said, do forgive yourself. ?
