Forgotten forever

Forgotten forever

It needs to be said

that when we are dead

our impact on life will fade

as if our foundations had never been laid

We will become a distant memory

that will disappear into eternity

where our presence will be a remote thought

to prove that our lives were really of nought

An album might retain a photograph

which for a while might raise a laugh

but soon our face and identity

will speak less of our actual certainty

We are all transient souls

like the embers of burning coals

in life we were vibrant and real

but death has now fixed its seal

If there is a place beyond the grave

may some room for us be saved

If oblivion is to be our final goal

those left will still have no answer to the

big bang or the black hole

An endlessly fascinating and unsolveable puzzle which also scares the shit out of most of us. Why don't the clouds part and let us see the stage set which apparently exists there with all its gnashing of teeth( or is it dentures) and dedicated wannabes clutching at straws?

No need to answer this Keith !

To adapt the last line of this thoughtful piece...go out with a bang
on your way to that big black hole that awaits your earthly remains.
Remembrance is hardly a generational/family thing. Who knows of
Shakespeare's offspring or even those of Churchill. Use whatever
gifts you have to enrich life while you're here and hope some stay
on when you're gone to provide others with what you had to offer
That is the nearest any of us get to immortality.

Well Don,

Instead of encountering St Peter we might find St Nookie at the golden gates.
