Getting All A's

Remember the A's

you got in school

how proud you were

to have them

and how proud to share

your report card

with parents who would

brag on you and

embarrass you with praise

and tell all the relatives

about your success

but then came graduation

and real life happened

and suddenly the A's

went away

and you became just

"meets expectations"

only average among many

and somehow

it's never been the same

high school was hated

yet now looking back

you wish you had some A's again

and you wish you had

your parents back to say

well done

keep up the good work.

I never got A's, I passed with C's and D's.

Graduation was the happiest day of my life until my kids were born. In fact, I'd probably still rank it as All-Time #3 or #4.

Gotta do what you gotta do.???

Great poem DK
The child in us never dies
If only we knew then that our parents would have loved us regardless !

I enjoyed my schooldays - for the surroundings and the friendships
made more than the quality of the teachers, which, in retrospect,
left much to be desired in many ways; not least managing the one
to one connection with a range of inquisitive but often unanswered
questions. I progressed in the experience gained in later life which
helped towards balancing the disappointment of comparative scholastic failure. I often wonder why adults - even into old age -
place so much value on exams and passes in childhood and puberty!
Late developers have their place, and contributions to make - but
the system often seems stuck in the realm of the very young - a
place of parrot-fashion learning without understanding..which takes me back to my lack of success in obtaining solutions to my
frequently put question at school: "why?"...

I wish I could empathise here but I rarely if ever got an A for anything . If A had stood for average then I would have cleared the board. But alas not.
Great poem D
