The holidays gone

Thanksgiving in the rear view

so is the excitement

which came and went so suddenly

we waited for weeks

we anticipated

food  song  conversation

the drama of relatives and politics

weeks building to a crescendo

it got so we could hardly wait

and then BLAM

   it's after midnight

and it's suddenly over

all the stuff

of stuffing and turkey

yams and cranberries and pie is gone

along with all the joy

we are now sad inflatables

sagging over the landscape

giant globs

with all the air let out.
