After The Day After

How many plastic

containers can you fit

in a refrigerator

all shapes and sizes

of Tupperware

stacked and backed up

to the rear of the fridge

the holy tomb of leftovers

the dregs of what was

cold reminders

of recycling and revenge

Thanksgiving is over

yet its bones remain

to be recalled rehashed reheated

again and again until finally

laid to rest

the last yam

the last cranberry

the last piece of pie

the last leg

served up in one last hurrah

a fond farewell

the end of Thanksgiving leftovers

and for that

we give Thanks again.
