Withdrawl

Withdrawl

Betwixt two worlds in which I live

one fraught with anxiety and cares

These daily assaults can be withstood

but only by a regular respite and withdrawl

From articial sounds, mobiles and computers

away from incessant mithering I need to flee

I retreat to the created order, to landscapes and seascapes

to the edge of open spaces, shades and glades

To stand and watch the ripples of the ocean

to gaze aloft at mountains and clouds

Then a balance is restored. I can breathe deeply

to return to the fray to the sound of traffic

and the beckoning of the telephone

Colin,
Thank you. Mither is a word I picked up in my youth when in Lancashire where I lived in exile as a Warwickshireman. I also love the word gumption. At school I was for ever being asked for a tab (cigarettes).

good to see the word 'mithering' getting an airing in a poem Keith and I understand where you're coming from. Col.

Brian,
Thanks. I enjoy and need my own company and find solace in solitude.

Keith - I can relate to this, though I don't need the same sort of respite. Mine is social sport with a lot of banter.
