Only One Winner

Only One Winner

He dropped a glass

On my stone floor

And there was only one winner.

She breathed her last

Was at death’s door

And there was only one winner.

He took a chance

She faced a threat

And there was only one winner.

He lived a life,

He paid his debt

And there was only one winner.

My nights were dark

The sun arose

And there was only one winner.

The bulbs awoke

The ground had froze

And there was only one winner.

I stumbled down

But caught my fall

And there was only one winner.

She marched ahead

She faced a wall

And there was only one winner.

I had a dream

In nightmare sweats

And there was only one winner.

The day is gone

The sunlight sets

And there is only one winner.

A world of pain

A heart of love,

And there is only one winner.

The scowl of hate

The purest dove,

And there is only one winner.

So we must live

Each day our last

And there is only one winner.

Our future’s gone

Our torment’s past

And there is only one winner.

The children run

The old ones crawl

And there is only one winner.

New life begun

Spring, summer, fall

And there is only one winter.

The evil rise

So wins the sinner,

But there is only one winner.

Thank you Hannah for your continuing support and encouragement! This one just came to me very quickly and I am still not sure how I interpret it myself. i guess it is open to opinions whether it is about bleak despair or beautiful hope, but maybe mainly about resilience in the face of both those two impostors.

This is an amazing poem.
Read it twice. All of life is here.
