A Fiddlers Tale

In a quaint little village

not far from here

fiddlers' romance diners

at restaurant tables on terraces

peppered with terracotta pots

overflowing parsley and thyme

and down a country lane lined

with white stone walls brimming

with alyssum rosemary and sage

leading to a curiosity shop where

a stradivarius violin with no bow

takes centre stage in the window

and there's irony in the tinkling

of bells as a goat-herd steers his

love of tender years towards a

meadow where lambs gambolled

and now being served at tables

in restaurant terraces peppered

and flavoured with home grown

seasonings and

fiddlers romance the diners.

Janet, I don't whether you are off-line yet, but, if not, please know I really like this. I think it is full of marvellous images, very well expressed, and throbbing with heart! This insightfulness, empathy, and increasing poetical skills make your work a joy to read.

Stop it... you're making me hungry!
(*stomach rumbles*)
Very good poem and quite distinct from the other poems I've read of yours. I also agree with Sophie that 'stradivarius' is a truly fantastic word, but one, nonetheless, quite hard to get into conversation. E.g. "How's the weather?"
"Get me a stradivarius violin and I'll play my interpretation of it for you."
Ah, I give up...

I can almost smell the atmosphere in this poem (due to your imagery, not due to my overly large nose, heh heh.)

Are you trying to turn me into a veggie Janet? The price of lamb is already doing that....
Like this one. Love the perfect, pretty little picture you conjure up and the contrast between the slaughtered lambs, offered up for dinner and the fiddler romancing diners. It kind of reminds me of the band still playing as the Titanic sunk. Think I'll eat my bacon and egg in silence this morning....
