Quite, Greg.

Dunno what it would have sounded like, but it wouldn't have got the airplay. So not a hit. Certainly not with me.

I believe you’re right, Greg. I got confused with the one about the world being a great big onion. And thanks for the “Like” back in 2017.
I find the concept of “Young, Gifted and Black” awkward also. How would it sound if it was “Young, Gifted and White”? Mmmmm.

Point of information, John, from an old fart ... I believe 'Young, Gifted and Black' was by Bob and Marcia, not Blue Mink. I found the latter very difficult to listen to.

Thanks for your thoughts, Martin. Yes, I realised Wolfgar’s fate after I had posted my comment. I have some way to go to catch him up it seems.
The moderation process does seem shrouded in a kind of Masonic black-balling secrecy so at odds with its otherwise laudable service.
FYI as they say, “Old Racist and Thick” was a parody of Blue Mink’s “Young Gifted and Black” and was about an academic analysis of the demography of Leave voters.
You kind of suspect political intolerance, even censorship.
I’d be happy to email it to you if you’re bothered.

John I believe the contributor "Wolfgar" (David Moore) had 300+ items removed plus every communication he ever uploaded disappeared.

I did not get to read your poem but it does seem strange it has only now disappeared. Maybe the WoL oracle considered the recommendation of consistency recently recommended by Devon Brock (now departed contributor) if so expect to hear more crystal shattering in the night. Maybe they are hardening their stance rather than reviewing it in any other way.

It may be some kind of token "Night of the long knives"

This strategy is similar in all respects to how governments create rebels and terrorists of those who are considered a nuisance. First they silence them, then they impose bans, then they cut off all lines of communication which effectively makes them outlaws, then they disseminate rumour and suggestion regarding the rebels conduct and beliefs, including things like suggesting they are newly born trolls even if and when they make reasonable claims under their true identity (it appears this may have been recently practiced) Once the outsiders are totally cut off those in power can effectively say and do whatever they like, safe in the knowledge that the rebel voices cannot be heard.

Of course such a strategy ultimately fails, that said it has never stopped its repeated deployment.

It is with some satisfaction that I note this poem has been removed by the moderator. Unless I am advised differently I believe I am the only blogger to have had two of their poems removed.
What is puzzling is that this poem was posted two and a half years ago and has only just been removed. It seems it breaches WOL’s Code of Conduct now but didn’t then.
Equally puzzling is why anyone would wish to trawl through two and a half year old posts in search of something to be offended by.
It all beats me.

Cleverly done as always. Sadly the source material only tells half the story, just like the referendum.

I suspect we are just two old dinosaurs with values from a different era.

With your stance I might not be concurring
But nonetheless I like your stirring!

Hello, MC.
I couldn't resist reworking this 60's song, given the rhythmic congruence of the two titles and the consonantal rhyme between "black" and "thick".
I do embellish the findings of the survey for the purposes of poetic licence - but they were the findings.
You, more than most, understand that I am politically a loose canon, upsetting Left and Right as I find fit. I already have in the oven a riposte to this parody entitled "Remoaners", which I expect will rile those of a different disposition.

Once upon a time I stood upon Hadrian's Wall at Housesteads and gazed north, wondering why he
hadn't built it a bit further south.
Another study indicates a strong
sense of nationhood in younger
folk with a sense of the country's
heritage and the way it has been
stealthily suborned to a political
deceit over the Channel by those
with a temporary responsibility to
safeguard Parliament rather than
be seduced by "pie in the sky" of a
different sort that has no place
in the democratic process.
Old? - Guilty.
Racist? - a word that is so abused
nowadays that it's lost its proper perspective. No plea entered.
Thick? - like the great cliffs that
mark and defend our shores? Guilty.
As for Scotland - the Scottish
Nationalists have always put
their own interests first, even
trying for deals with the Nazis in
WW2 when things looked iffy for
the UK and its allies. No sensible
Scot (and I include a good friend
in that category) seeks divorce
from the Old Alliance for the
prospect of being run by Brussels
instead.
The EU mask has slipped and the
uncomfortable reality recognised.
Ask Greece, Spain and Italy about
their economies and their young
employment prospects. Painful.
Change is the secret of success
and the EU hasn't been willing to
make the effort. Delusion is another
word - and the most insidious
trenchant sort is "self-delusion".
Cheers.
