LOCKED-IN SYNDROME

Was the EU ever about democracy

Or making sure we bent the knee?

Spreading deceit, delay and dissembling

So there's never a way now of resembling

What hopeful nation states once knew

Before seized in the maw of the greedy EU.

Mark these words: a vote to remain

Will give up any chance again

Of saying no to all that is planned

But hidden within its grasping hand.

When habeas corpus is no more -

And sterling Euro-bound before

We realise what has been done;

And the NHS another prize to be won.

It all will happen - and so fast

Losing everything we thought would last.

Britain never never shall be slaves

Except when fooled on what it "saves".

When all hard gained is given away

To uncaring others who'll hold sway

Over everything we had - and lost,

Content the UK should be bossed.

If YOU'd barter freedom in hope of gain

You deserve to lose both - and chained REMAIN!.

JC - your view on the subject is acknowledged and
appreciated.
For myself, I fear for what we cannot gain but will
surely lose if we vote to remain in the EU. Our
huge financial input is welcome but that's about it.
For centuries, we have been involved with Europe but
not subject to what is the EU collective whim or diktat. Indeed, our position, geographically and politically,
has been to take part when the "usual suspects" were
unacceptably aggressive, citing Germany and France
to the fore in history, with coat-tail allies close by.
Clausewitz, the Prussian major-general from Napoleonic
Europe, wrote a book called "On War" which is still a
reference work for many - in which (think Germany/
France for a start!) - "War is the continuance of
politics by other means..." (and, of course, VICE VERSA;
hence the prominence of the aforementioned countries
in the growth and power-grab ambitions of the EU).
For the UK to be merely one voice is wasting our time,
ability and wider historical influence. To have to
accept uncontrolled immigration is the route to an
irredeemable loss of identity as a nation known and
recognised throughout a world that is, in both
historical and trading terms very much OUR world,
far wider and far more important than the self-
obsessed control and the political supremacy that
the EU, led by Germany and France, seeks over its individual members in its carefully constructed creation.
Cheers.

You know my views already, MC. But I would be more persuaded to your argument if I could see that the French had lost national identity, or the Germans, or Italians etc. So why would we if we remained?

Money makes the world go round. The UK's position
as the 5th largest economy is not challenged.
Trade will always be a question of supplying what others
want to buy and buying what is wanted - hopefully with
a "plus" in the process. Our once great industries like
ship-building have been forced to face the burgeoning
third world with its vast work force and low wages
creating a competitive disparity that has proved very
damaging. The steel industry has also suffered for the
same reasons. Fortunately, UK motor manufacturing has
moved up through the gears - with foreign investment
and good faith showing the way. Conversely, our own
financial investment abroad - many billions in the USA
alone - works in our favour. Asset stripping and asset
adjustment - reflected via the world's stock exchanges
- are par for the course, dictated by changing circumstances. The UK possesses a film, music and
general entertainment industry that is world famous and
another huge contributor to the country's economy.
As for escaping the EU - which still refuses an audit of
its accounts - I recall the words of Franklin Delano
Roosevelt: "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself".

MC - your poem, as usual, is a very good rhyme.

However, if I read it and substitute the letters EU for Tories, it ceases to rhyme yet makes much more sense to me.

We are losing everything to the Tories. They are asset stripping and ruining this country. It has sod all to do with the EU, as far as I can see.
