Fear

Fear

can dress itself up

as intuition -

create an illusion

to rule your mind

your life.

Fear

lives in the same place -

the gut - trying to smother

other instincts.

Fear

tells you maybe it’s not

what you wanted anyway –

tells you it’s safer here

doing nothing.

Taking no risks.

Living alone.

Striving for nothing.

Fear

is a liar

and a poor man

and a beggar

and a thief.

i really enjoyed this, Natalie - possibly my favourte piece of yours so far... i particularly like the use of
'Taking no risks.

Living alone.

Striving for nothing' as this breaks the beat of the poem and takes it to a different level.

excellent..

An interesting theme on a personal level.
Fear has its place in Nature's scheme. It can
warn against unnecessary and ill-considered
deeds or risks that ego might persuade us are
worth entertaining. Fear is the mind's built-in safeguard. Its appearance should be
given respect even if it is not always taken
into account when committing to action.
Cowardice is a human concept. It can be seen as accepting fear's warnings to ensure survival
without concern for opinions of a social sort
and living on as Nature demands. Heroism too
is a man-made concept. The biggest fiercest
creatures in Nature will back away in
circumstances in which they see no advantage,
thus ensuring survival or freedom from life-
threatening injuries, enabling the continuance
of life, not unnecessary wasteful death.
