Your First Hut Is The Cheapest

entry picture

I could have bought a good shed from the start

But I got one from the Exchange and Mart

Now the buggers started falling apart

So now I need to buy another shed

I’ll buy a better shed this time cos I know

Your first hut is the cheapest

I’ve learnt so I know

Your first hut is the cheapest

But cheapest often means that it is worst

I should have gone for quality from the first

And, of course, I never got reimbursed

So need to buy another shed.

I’m getting roof felt a gale won’t remove

I’m getting flooring that’s been tongued and grooved

With a kite-mark that’s BS-approved

Cos I know that I’ve to buy a better shed

This time I’ll buy a better shed cos I know

Your first hut is the cheapest....

I’ll get the cladding in best pine ship-lap

To ensure there’s no knots and no gaps

I’ve learned my lesson  - I’ll no buy no crap

Cos I know that I’ve to buy a better shed

This time I’ll buy a better shed cos I know

Your first hut is the cheapest....

Just to add my appreciation, though I'll never hear the song properly ever again!

Quality stuff, this, John - unlike your first shed.
Ps can I have your old shed?

Definitely in a different league - you should busk outside B&Q until they pay you money to go away ;)

Love the guitar in the background - it sounds so pretty. Do you ever write any serious stuff John? I'd love to hear it if you do.

Cat Stevens wrote it, PP Arnold had a hit with it, and I'm fond of Rod Stewart's version, too. But John, yours is in a different league ...

John, you've gotta play that next time you're at PPP! Love it!
