Copernicus’ Commentariolus

entry picture

Copernicus’ Commentariolus

The sun will never rise again,

although its early morning stain

still paints the heavens with a hue

of orange, red and purple. Few

will listen to my sad refrain.

I studied long, no doubts remain.

Though saying so risks Papal chain

for claiming this heresy true.

The sun will never rise again.

Look to the skies and it is plain -

Heliocentric theories reign.

The earth tilts and we welcome, new,

the solar limb – a blazing view

of modern and enlightened reign.

The sun will never ‘rise’ again.

Ah, a rondeau, Ian. I haven't had a go at one of these but posted a triolet a couple of years ago. I might re-post again when I run out of current stuff.
Good to see someone else doing form.

I am so impressed. I've not successfully done a rondeau. You give me encouragement. Good jab about the 'Papal chain'.

Thanks John
it's actually a Rondeau - based upon the concept that the sun doesn't actually rise - the earth tilts :-) good old Copernicus eh?

Top-bombing, Ian.
I don't profess to understand the astronomy but I enjoyed the ride, particularly the repetition (almost felt like a villanelle).
