                                     Destination Unknown

We look to the stars at night,

And acknowledging we are only

Prisoners here on Earth;

We’re looking for inspiration

From the ‘Heavens’ –

But sadly,

Turn away our open gaze

And we’re praying like we’ve

Never prayed before,

     But the Stars remain hushed,

Keeping secrets while The Guardians –

Shed tears of sorrow.

Are the dreams of children over?

Are we seeing only the backs of Sainted Angels

As they turn away their stare,

Hiding grief,

     Hiding grief!

2.

     This world turns slowly

On the wobble of its axis,

As people at play go about

Their daily business,

And infants not yet grown

Look worried as parents

Stubbornly refuse

To embrace the change

That’s needed,

As they hide their own secret sorrow.

We could have made it through,

We could have made it through –

Each curse, each spite,

If we only knew

How to extend the hand

Of friendship,

To all our fellow Man,

Our fellow Man within

A world written within humanity,

But we resisted,

We fought and more,

And more and more

Were killed in bloodlettings

We tried to justify.

     All the clues were there,

All the clues were here

Inside each heart

But far from who we

Are is the ignorance

Of who we claim to be,

     Where all emotion,

Dries like the dust of wood

Upon the glass-paper of our minds,

And brittle still,

Is the inner self we try forget,

     And we’re all lost

As we look towards The Stars

We cannot have;

Our solemnity – The Truth

We all denied,

The truth that,

‘Man’ be only an impiety

Like a childs where lost

Upon his world;

     No-one seems to care,

     And in an isolated state,

We have never come together,

And only acknowledge each other,

     Upon the word…………’Farewell.’

Thoughtful and well-crafted, with a well chosen musical theme. Possessing some memorable lines, this a very worthwhile addition to the list of poems that make us pause and think! Excellent.

Beautiful and sad.

As always you read so well, and this is very moving with the good choice of music.
Excellent stuff, Mike.
