It's the Music that Matters!! - A Poem For Sophie Lancaster - Never Forget X

entry picture

It’s the Music That Matters!

The Metalhead strums his air guitar

The Indian man sings while playing his sitar

It’s not the colour of his skin

- It’s the music that matters!

Panpipes in the mountains

Music in the fountains

It doesn’t matter where it is

- It’s the music that matters!

Synthesisers and Electropop

Strut your stuff and bop till you drop

Dance yourself dizzy

- It’s the music that matters!

Fiddles, flutes and saxaphones

Drums, guitars and big trombones

Play it, hit it, blow it, sing it

- Its’ the music that matters!

Orchestras and Philharmonics

With Tubeway Army type electronics

It doesn’t matter how much it costs

- It’s the music that matters!

Black and White, Reggae and Dub

Karaoke in the pub

We've all got songs that we love

cos it's the music that matters!

Multi-coloured Punks pogo in a pack

Sophie and her Goths just dress in black

It doesn’t matter what you look like

- It’s the music that matters!

Northern Soul, Rock n’ Roll

Mods and Rockers on patrol

Different styles and different clothes

- But it’s the music that matters!

So in every city and every town

Turn the music up and the fighting down

For Sophie and her friends

- It’s the music that mattered...

I really like your poem Jeff, it is so true. Music speaks to our souls in a language evreryone understands, crossing all cultural barriers and lifting us above the hatred, bigotry, and politicd. Uniting us, and giving us the gift of friendship
Id love to see you live but cant make the Manchester gig, may all enjoy and be blessed by it's power

Thanks for reading this poem and any comments. Next weekend I will be compering a bank holiday weekend gig at the Witchwood in Ashton

Punk against prejudice supports and remembers Sophie and others needlessly victimised and in Sophie's case worse, because of who they are or what they look like. See link 10 bands each day & BBQ.

I will also be performing this and other poems - ALL welcome (£20 wkd, £12 per day) - let music and poetry unite!

If you can't attend but want to donate or want a copy of our A Means to an End book (£5.00 but £3.00 per copy to the Sophie Lancaster foundation) please let me know thanx Jeff 07984197175
