My Guitar

entry picture

I know the music's in there.

I've heard it, seen it played

As someone else's fingers

Across the strings have strayed.

So why, when I attempt to play

G sharp thirteen augmented,

Does my guitar just sound like it's

A banshee that's demented?

I've tried my riffs and rock licks.

I've tried classical and free

But still the music's locked inside

And I can't find the Key.

Perhaps I should try something

Which makes a different din.

Maybe I'll give up my guitar

And try the violin.

Nice poem, I like the G sharp line a lot. I'd really like to have seen ceilidh rhyme with ukulele in that last verse.

I,m at the same frustrating stage
with my geetar as you are Yvonne.

My advice?
well first off I know zilch
about keys(musical ones of course)
and I,bit by bit
played simple tunes on the sixth string only
so that I didnt become too frustrated too soon.

Then,as I say bit by bit where I could not continue to complete certain tunes
I then knew at that point I could find
the note on the fifth string so that
I could complete the tune despite how slowly-
slow, being the way required for beginners anyway.

Now I can play a stack of tunes(SLOWWWWWLY)
but manage to hit the right notes.

You should hear my 'Ride a white swan!'
or even(believe it or not-
Samuel Barbers adagio-WHOAH!

All you can do is try
and persist in trying!

Any requests? lol!xx

Hi Yvonne - Like Kealan, I empathise with this nice little piece. I plink a bit as well -- My advice is just enjoy what you can do, while trying to get better -- for myself,I put mine down when I listen to Joe Pass. I also don't have any aversion to rhyme in its correct place!
