Space Junk

entry picture

Catch a piece of space junk

Put it in your pocket

Save it for a rainy day

Maybe you could hide it

In your airing cupboard

Or you could sell it on ebay.

I guess a good place for you to keep it

Would be underneath your bed

Maybe today though you should stay indoors

In case a piece comes falling on your head.

Remember it’s the property

Of the US government

And you should give it back to them.

Or you may hear a knock

On your front door and

Outside are lots of little green men.

And the little green men they will tell you

That they have a prior claim

But you must answer

That it’s finders keepers

And they may not bother you again.

If a bit lands in your back garden

Use it as a garden seat

But don’t sit on it yet or you’ll get a hot bottom

Cos it’s got a lot of heat.

It’s racing through the earth’s atmosphere

It’s approaching as we speak

And if a bit lands here in St Agnes

You will surely hear me squeak!

So … catch a piece of space junk

Put it in your pocket

Save it for a rainy day

Maybe you could hide it

In your airing cupboard

Or you could sell it on ebay.

Ah the little green men!

This reminds me of something from way back when by 'Captain Lockheed and the Starfighters'
- some members of Hawkwind who did a charity record for the widows of starfighter pilots.

'Catch a falling Starfighter
Put it in the pocket of your jeans
You can use it as a cigarette lighter
Or an opener for a can of beans.'

Of course yours is better

You'll forget old Perry Como
If a piece lands on your dome-o!
Fun - and not without bit of uncomfortable truth. We can forget all that stuff circling
overhead...waiting for the chance to come home!

I wrote this in September when a six ton chunk of space satelite was heading towards us. Thankfully, we survived! And may I thank the Little Green Men for backing me on this track! ;)
