'Family Ties'

'Family Ties'

Family ties
Not meant to despise
Not meant to cover the lies

At one time, bringing you together
A thought:
‘It would last forever’

But not in a world of abuse
Deflected, rejected
Used to blame you

Family ties
Ties you up in knots
Oh the pain by them
Soon forgot
Na, na, na, na
Concealed
Beaten down
So you don’t have the strength to reveal
The truth within...

The family ties
Not meant to despise
Not meant to cover the lies...

But it does

A story I’ve heard
So many times before
Those around
Choose to ignore
Unaffected by family ties
So they choose to hide
Hiding by it and them

Oh the truth of the abuse
Will go away
IF WE IGNORE IT
IF WE DENY IT
WE CAN CHANGE IT
Within a web of lies
By family ties

While you do this
Will you choose to ignore
Your part in family ties?

It didn’t tie
It chained
Chained us down
But within the family lie
Denying the power of
Family ties
In one last attempt
With self respect
I cry out and say:

“That YOU’VE,
abused us once more”

And through the family ties
Beneath those family lies
We’ll try
So that family lie
Doesn’t become a noose
Put to use
Like too many have done before

Family ties
I’ve learnt to despise
It just covered
The families lie

"This represents what too many have gone through after facing the abuse faced as a child. There are too many circumstances when the abuse was added to by other people, including sadly family. For those families not making this true, thank you. I know there is no easy way of dealing with these issues, especially if the abuse was done by a family member (which is usually the case). But, family shows its real meaning IF it is there for you. But at the very least, if it doesnt comdemn you to a life of silence, in which when some have taken their lives, are then blamed for that too. This is Dedicated to all those court up in this devastating situation, for all."
