An eternity in the hole

I saw razor sharp hills

tried to climb over

they cut my sides

I saw a dark ocean

swam across with my sins

it drowned my conscience

Please let me in

Please let me in

Spent too long in this hole

with the scattered brains of the ancient world

Depression was my friend

understood me so well

the time we spent

writing till he goes

his pain my prose

Ideas he'd have

ideas he'd take

a bastard pessimistic

masochistic and sadistic

I saw a haunted beach

haunted by Lucifers children

only the beach

stands between me and my destiny

come with me

lets swim to the end

Spent too long in this place

with these people

stranger to their souls

humanity has been scarred

and the world isn't ours

an angel told me suicide was painless

too many deaths

too many angels

Look at the couple in the corner

their faces say it all

Pull me out of this black hole

before the earth begins to fall

Almost out

but the ground is soft

sinking feeling

disappearing in the palm of my hands

take me down from this cross

crucify me no more

Tell me do you suffer with pain?

'Does it come and go?'

'but stay for too long?'

how easy to hide

A suffocating street

standing alone

invisible

Screaming like a cayote hound

I haven't made a sound

Like a volcano

bottling it up

soon I'll erupt

Lava spills

offering pain

pull me away

the people are insane

I saw a black forrest

tried to run through

but they wouldn't let me out

In this hole i'm blank

can't write the words that tore within

I try to write the poems of the night

but the day takes them away

again

we can only write the semantics of our past

our future holds no ink on the page

Nobody knows their way around

everybody

lost and found

trapped away at sea

or on some desserted land

making daisy chains in the grass

fighting the fatherless sea

20 odd years have passed

20 years beyond our past

writing songs about feelings I haven't had

and people I've yet to meet

'Have I been here before?' the old man said

a ghost inside his head

his face was old

his voice was cold

they chased him away

Inside the midst of my mind

are a million of your delicate rhymes

songs of your history

words of how fate treats me

when I'm almost there

time keeps me here

the ship is almost in

agonisingly I watch it sail away again

In the distance the memory of your face

but I reach out too late

be careful

as the demons vacate

Brilliant Richard, tons of great stuff in here, love it, the lines-
I saw a haunted beach
haunted by Lucifers children
only the beach
stands between me and my destiny

are excellent. I've been writing some stuff from a dark period in my lie lately and will have them out soon, keep up the good work, Jeff

Hi Richard, The first phrase which springs to mind is, "depression leads to expression."
Strangely enough, it was wrirren on an "angel card." would you believe.
I love the reference to carrying the world on ones shoulders, "the cross."
The nightmare in "screaming like a coyote hound, i haven't made a sound."
and the wanting to leave but you know you have to stay.
Finally, i just want to share with you, i have a spirit child who works with me in my spiritual work. She always hands me a daisy chain before she leaves and kisses me on the cheek.

Absolutely, a TERRIFIC write. From beginning to end, i was in there with you.
Thanks, Janet.x
