SCHRODINGERS' IMMIGRANTS

entry picture

These are all those foreigners

For whom their dual goal

Is both to take our jobs from us

While living on the dole.

And at the forefront of all this

The Daily Mail notes

Are those who risk their lives for this

Their war cry “Stop the Boats!”

But what they never publish

Which gets far less acclaim

Official figures for this year

Show 30,000 came.

Yet total immigration

To these shores this year

Was 1.2 million folk

The ONS is clear.

So 30,000 refugees

Who over rough seas went

Well, do the maths yourself; you'll find

That's 2.5%

Of course this won't persuade you

You'll simply offer quotes

From the Tory Daily Mail

“For God's sake 'Stop the Boats!'”.

Pavlov, MC…? Methinks you are mistaken.
The Austrian, Herr Erwin Rudolf Josef Alexander Schrödinger, (he of feline fame) was forced to flee Nazi Germany, was related to the Duke of York.
The latter, as British school chidren are taught, was up, when he was up, and when he was down, he was down, and when he was only half-way up, he was neither up nor down. Schrödinger’s cat suffered from a similar affliction, to which canines such as Pavlov's are not prone.

Hilariously, Lord Acton didn't coin "lies, damned lies and statistics". That was Mark Twain, who attributed it to Benjamin Disraeli. But which of the figures from the Office of National Statistics do you distrust, M.C.? As for "outnumbering the concerned local population", show your working please, lest you be hoist by your own petard.

On David's point. The existence of safe, legal routes into the country would hopefully see an end to the small boats without much need for enforcement action. There would no longer be a market for them.

There are people who are in this country illegally, but they are not asylum seekers, seeking asylum is not illegal, and by and large they did not arrive by small boat, they arrived with a visa and simply stayed after it expired.

Thanks again John for getting some facts to rhyme.

To adapt Lord Acton: There are truths half-truths and damned falsehoods. Schrodinger...who he? Is he related to Pavlov? 😏

Well considered thoughts, David. I heard Rory Stewart (a Tory I have some time for) on Question Time make the point that we do need to get a grip of immigration or run the risk of stimulating far right groups like the AfD.
But I recognize how hard this will be when global warning renders more parts of the world uninhabitable meaning even more migration.

Hi John,

A poem pointing out truths. Oh, people will not like that (you're on a loser)

I absolutely believe the boats need stopping. With regard to the UK they are a product of the absense of established and efficeint Immigration / Visa sections in the British Embassies / Commissions and Consulates in the Country's of origin of the unregistered arrivals.

When coupled with war, persecution and general misery I personally do not blame any of the incomers (however they arrive, for wanting to better their lot) Having lived and worked in too many countries that fall into the previously mentioned categories, I would do exactly the same.

It is true that the establishment of satellite immigration offices outside of the UK in a third country, other than the claimants point of origin would not stem the flow of unregistered arrivals completely. Albeit dependant on such individuals even presenting themselves for the process. However with a fair process it might enable some level of control.

What really needs to happen is a proper targeting of criminal gangs facilitating the disgusting exploitation of migration. With our security services stretched already and any meaningful collaboration with our near neighbours (especially France) negligable, it seems unlikely we could engage in any effective interdiction of the trade. There are other options that would infringe on border agreements and established cross border operational protocols that would no doubt violate the human rights of dispicable human traffickers. Frankly who gives a stuff for their human rights when it might end human suffering. It takes politicians with cojones and conviction to oversee such endeavour. When set against their own personal career progression and ambition finding politicians prepared to act in such a way would be problematic.

Whatever we might say there seems little doubt that the situation we find ourselves in now is of our own making, through mis-governance and bad management. One can hardly blame the incomers for our own stupidity and negligence or their own desire to better themselves...even if some are economically motivated. Which of us would not wish the same for our own kin.

All that aside, the UK is no longer a place I might wish to resettle in if I knew the truth of its current circumstances.

To those who dislike engagement in subject matter rather than poetic content I sincerely apologise (I do understand their stance, this is a poetry site) I could not help but respond to John's apt and well placed poem.

So thank you John for the opportunity.

Here's to less death and misery for all, except the peddlars.

"The Man on the Clapham Omnibus", MC?
He prefers the rule of law, as opposed to ill-informed anarchy; and deals in facts, as opposed to fiction.

I was right, MC. As the poem says, “Of course this won’t persuade you”.
And thanks for the Likes, Larisa, Steve and Auracle.

Personally, I prefer plain English. What ever happened to "The
Man on the Clapham Omnibus"? A little reality seems in order
amongst the high-minded preaching. Gammon or Porkies!

“Lies, damned lies and statistics”. That’s one way of dismissing facts, MC.

The subject is contentious but basically revolves around what is
legal/ overseen and accepted and what is not. Add to the
confusion, Lord Acton's observation (?) about lies, damned lies
and statistics" and there is the feeling that someone isn't doing
their job properly - for whatever reasons and hasn't been doing
it for quite a while. I remain sanguine about the defence of those who set off from France, that popular bastion of civilised life and
holidays to remember, funding a hazardous Channel crossing
via mucho dinero to criminals for the purpose while our MPs
pose and preen whilst doing Sweet Fanny Adams to combat the results except use tax payers' money to put them up in
hotels and other establishments, at times outnumbering the
concerned local population whose lives are so arbitrarily
interrupted and in various ways, ignored and dismissed as
"racist" or whatever!

For God’s sake, don’t stop the boats whatever you do!
We desperately need to keep the Gammons crying into their ale down at the Old Cock and Bull; if they stopped 'em, the Jackanorygraph'd have to start inventing total total hollyhocks about racist dogs not being allowed in the Welsh countryside to avoid offending Scots or Indians or Jews, or sumfink; ooerrrr, they already have!
An' another thing - that Schrodinger feller needs to make his darned mind up! 😡
