A Gay Dismissal

A Gay dismissal

It was predictable,

pleasant smiles,

with concealed grins,

Pleasantries observed,

coffee served.

No sudden shock,

no usurper.

The dock unprepared,

not even a chain

or any restraint.

It was to be comfortable,

the rehearsed narrative

proclaimed:

You possess a life style

incompatible

with our ethos.

Well done!

Should I clap?

A silent applause,

concluded.

Deed done

please soon be gone,

no mess or fuss.

We wish you well,

shake my hand.

Vacate this land

No self-pity, just a desire for justice.

Thank you MC., John B., Stephen G and W3sko for commenting on this poem. Also for Clare and Manish who sent likes. The victim in the poem was yours truly in 1984. The consequences of this dismissal made me quite ill for some time. A cruel act after years of loyal service.
Thank you all,
Keith

"Comfort zones" could be an alternative title for this theme.
Or maybe "Fitting in"? Always worth bringing to attention.

Devastating poem, Keith. Sad but true to life.
