If It Rains...

You say the world is beautiful
you say the world is sad
And all I have to add
is that it can be
so much more than that
but you must let it in…

You won’t walk on the beach
you say the sand will soil your soles
The lapping waves
like slathering tongues
will only taste you
and you won’t let it in…

O, won’t you come and see
the seasons with me
Won’t you come and see
this world of seasons
with me

Your song goes on and on
but it’s a world so sadly sung
As I step out into the sun
you see me leave without a coat
you crease your eyes
tarnishing your words with indignation

‘What if it rains’ you cry
and I pause and I sigh
then I turn and I smile
“If it rains, I’ll get wet
I’ll feel its song against my skin
and I’ll welcome that feeling in…

O, won’t you come and see
the seasons with me
Won’t you come and see
this world of seasons
with me…”

Thank you Flyntland, what a bittersweet comment. I'm so sorry the dogs have gone and I do hope you can get out in the woods again one day... but, if not, let the memories rain down instead.

I love this poem - and would love to be able to walk my dogs again through the rain-washed woods - the dogs are gone now and walking in woodland no longer possible but you poem revived the joy of it. Thank you

Thanks Keith, that's very kind of you.
Thanks Héléne, you're absolutely right there. Seems like we were both inspired by rain at the same time.
Thanks Uilleam, that line was the inspiration for the whole poem. Something I often say with a smile and know I'll enjoy it whatever the weather. I was also thinking about some of the people I know who are much less inclined to leave the house these days despite us being released. All that time indoors has made some more weary of the outside world for a number of reasons and this was my little poem begging them out into the weather...

Thanks also to Frederick, Rose, Stephen, Pete, K Lynn, Purplemoon and Bethany for the likes and for reading. I really appreciate it.

The number of times I've had that warning, and responded with
😊“If it rains, I’ll get wet

Really lovely, reminds me not to be afraid, to savor each moment, even when the hard rains fall. Thank you Tom.

Tom,
a masterpiece of human philosophy in poetic form. The penultimate stanza I think is superb. Well done
Thank you
Keith
