I Am Your Friend

I am death and I am your friend

I will be at your side when you meet your end

I’ll be there to lead you down the sacred path

You’ve always known

You must have been told

For everyone meets me in the end.

I’m not to be laughed at

And neither should you fear me

But either way you and I shall meet

Better to meet me with a smile, however worn

After all our meeting was foretold the moment you were born

We all have our good days and our bad

And between us plenty of summers we’ve had

Some feel cheated about their allotted time

Others have had a hard life and are ready to let go

Either way, it usually ends with sadness, you know.

Please welcome me for I am your friend

There is no getting away from me

You can’t pretend

But for everyone that meets with me

Another comes to take their place

And life goes on for the human race

deathlife

A lovely poem, Steve, pointing towards a sad moment but, as Keith says, comforting and reassuring in its way.

Truly philosophical and beautifully crafted portraying the inevitability of our ultimate demise. Yet somehow also comforting.
Thank you for this
Keith
