Make Me A Child Again

I was reading a blog a while ago where the author quoted a line from a poem which was 'make me a child again, just for tonight'. The poem was Rock Me to Sleep by Elizabeth Aykers Allen and I was so taken by that line I had to pinch it and add my own spin.

Show me the past again

Turn on a light

Make me a child again

Just for tonight

Show me the home where I grew up

Show me the room where I slept in bed

Show me my father again

Risen from the dead

Show me the time I tripped and fell

Show me my mother, cradling my head

Show me a schoolroom filled with my friends

Show me it closer with a magnifying lens

Show me the trees again

where we used to climb

Show me at Christmas

At a pantomime

Show me the lanes where we used to ride

Show me the den where we used to hide

Show me everything

Every secret delight

Make me a child again

Just for tonight.

Yes, it feels good to remember those simpler times.
Thanks to my fellow poets for their kind comments.
