Mask

'Big Boys don't cry' is what they say.
On record on TV, in movies and play.
To me that's so outdated and wrong.
A man who cries, can still be strong.

Emotions and fears some men will hide.
They don't like to reveal what's inside.
To cry is to be mocked, some men feel.
Just take the blows, with heart of steel.

An image to live up to and that's not fair.
'Man up' we're told, your soul don't bare.
Of your hurt and feelings, keep a grip.
Born with your mask and don't let it slip.

That's the way boys were mostly taught
Cry if you must...but don't get caught.
Big boys do cry, you can take it from me.
We have every  right to let tears run free.

A good and well crafted poem Mike. Its theme is true as Winston Churchill during the last World War was often seen shedding tears, particularly in Coventry after one of the most destructive air raids of the war.

To cry is to release a perfectly normal emotion and it also displays our humanity at its best.
Thank you for this
Keith
