RIP Dame Deborah James #Bowelbabe

entry picture

A very sad day has come
as a brave lady loses her fight for life
Known as Bowelbabe to the world
also a daughter, sister, mother and wife

By sharing her own experiences
she broke down many barriers
Her aim to challenge taboos
and change the conversation around cancer

She leaves behind a great legacy
one that will save lives for years to come
In the final weeks of her young life
raising an astronomical sum

Even in the most challenging moments
always wearing the brightest smile
Her campaign to raise awareness
carried out with inspirational style

Praised by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge
made a Dame for all she achieved
For her tireless efforts and giving hope
to those living with the disease

Her final message to us all
a wise and most important one too
Live a life full of love and hope with no regrets
and always check your poo

I read these lines following the arrival of an email from Cancer Research, with its hopeful content about the progress being
made in diagnosis and treatment....plus the need for funding
to keep the work ongoing. Many of us will know of someone
in the family or a friend who has become a casualty of this
disease in its various insidious forms. It is a source of insistent
curiosity as to how and why it emerges and this often seems
something of a lottery linked to genetics and lifestyle - with
age no guide to its appearance or otherwsie. This young
woman was an inspitational example of human courage
facing down a daunting enemy while aware of all that she
would be losing in an all too brief life.

A beautifully crafted poem which is heart rending but also one worthy of courage and praise for a remarkable individual.
Thank you for this

thank you for this Julie and may the beautiful and very very brave lady Deborah James be blessed by God for all she done in our lives and rest in peace. Just could not stop crying when I heard the news. So so sadly missed without any doubt
