WHILST IN PUTNEY

Putney is the sort of place

one can wear a woman's dress

and fit in I have found,

don't ask me why.

There are more things in heaven and earth

to concern us I know,

but it might be instructive in case of sudden flirtations

with hitherto untried mixed sex perambulations.

The same may not be said of other areas

where consequences might ensue

for instance after the sudden arrival

at an unexpected urinal

or the insect house at London zoo.

So i'd recommend Putney

handy for a station in case of the need for escape,

and a bridge over which to jump

in the dress you might wear to command the attention

you undoubtedly subconsciously desire.

Thanks for the extra likes, Russell and Aisha.

Nice to hear from you Jennifer - I cast my poetic net wide as you know form irreverential to fantasy and daftness. This one was a bit of all those!

Greg, more likely he wanted to get something ON his chest, I would have thought. Really funny and clever Ray, you never disappoint.

Sorry for the delay - legal advice and all that(haha). Thank you for the likes John C. John B. Holden Stephen and K. Lynn.

Thanks Greg, I have to confess I am no stranger to the dress (once only with the help of a professional cross dresser cabaret act who had all the gear) - gulp.

Through the rabbit hole Graham, noted ! I like to leave space for manoeuvring, especially in a tight dress.

Taken as intended Stephen, thanks.

Aah Mark. I never visited it but I respect the brand - the distinctive orange and blue originals. I do have a Charlie Roberts road bike, and he worked for Holdsworth as a frame builder (and Claud Butler). I had a friend who worked in their factory making wheels but in the 80s they started outsourcing all the parts . They were absorbed into another company I believe.

My own knowledge of Putney is limited to a long-ago visit to a
well-known bike shop called - perhaps appropriately, considering this poetical diversion - "Holdsworth"! To which i could add:
"Get a grip, Ray". 😊

A wonderful, surreal poem, Ray.

I always fight shy of assuming poetry is largely autobiographical. However, this is an interesting piece, which can be read in several ways. Surely the central tenet of the work. I hope!

Is there something you wish to get off your chest, Ray?
