A poet whose latest collection focuses on men and suicide appeared on a video at a football match on Saturday afternoon. Coventry poet Antony Owen’s latest collection is called The Battle, and he appeared on the big screen at Coventry City v Blackburn Rovers at half-time reading his poem ‘What the woods taught me’.

The video was backed by Mind Coventry and Warwickshire, MenTalk, and Sky Blues in the Community.

Antony Owen’s new collection is published by Knives Forks and Spoons Press. He said on Faceboook: “Seventy-five per cent of the UK suicides are men. I was nearly one of them but you can change the end of a story by opening up to someone and beginning a new chapter one day at a time. I'm now the happiest I've ever been and love saves lives.”

Great cause.

Poetry is closely linked to suicide, for good or ill.
