BEATING HEART

The beating heart of Christmas is its spirit of give and take

When goodwill and generosity come together to make

The effort to see the thoughts behind another point of view

And refrain from condemnation before thinking that act through.

The greeting "Merry Christmas" resonates in so many ways

Somehow warmer and more comforting than "Happy Holidays".

So let us all remember what the Season's meant to mean -

Understanding and accepting - and all that lies between.

It's easy to be cynical and assume the worst in others

But at Christmas time reject the feeling of ennui that smothers

The best of thoughts, the best of words, the best of deeds that rise up

To make us better than we are.  At Christmas, let's just wise-up!

SG - i think optimism always achieves ascendancy at Christmas.,
embodied in the childish wonder that crosses the years. Who
can resist a smile and a response upon getting a "Merry Christmas" from another?

Yes, I applaud the message of this poem, MC. One can only hope it will prevail during the many family gatherings!

JC - love the quote from that road sign. Humour is a great way
to burst the inflated balloon of assumed affront.
SA - every year sees the negative approach to the Season but
its essential message of "good will to all men" is surely as important as ever.
Appreciation is also extended to those "liking" this seasonal
contribution. ?

I applaud the sentiment (and the poem) MC.
I saw a photo of a road sign in America which read,
“Happy Whatever Doesn’t Offend You”
