Best In The Morning

entry picture

It’s best in the morning
with no decoration
only flesh
and fingers reaching out
It’s best in the morning
sun licking through the window
we’ve honestly
nowhere we need to be

It’s best in the morning
kitchen door
open on the garden
you sip your tea, strum the guitar
sitting on the back step
Your dark hair ruffled
eyes so brown and full of wonder
nowhere we need to be

“It’s best in the morning”
you smile and tunefully whisper
“we’re both naked in some way
stripped of all distraction
the love alight upon our tongues”
Leaning on the counter
I’m inking my clumsy lines
‘nowhere we need to be’

It’s best in the morning
writing us down to preserve it
I will treasure
these moments forever
We’re so good together
with the animals at our feet
all eating breakfast
and nowhere we need to be…

Thank you Jennifer, that's very kind. It's good to celebrate the small moments sometimes ?

Fantastic, (as usual). Like the first line holding it all together, and agree absolutely with Keith that it is full of an incredible lightheartedness, something in short supply lately. The lines are anything but clumsy!

Thank you Keith, I'm so pleased to hear you say that. I think it was inspired by the freedom of being on holiday or just those weekends that start just right.

And thank you Guinevere, I'm sure you will and they will write great things about your time together. Don't settle for anything else ?

Thanks also to Nigel, Stephen, Holden, Julie and other Stephen for the likes. I really appreciate you stopping by to have a read. Tom.

This is so lovely, and portrays a home full of love. I hope someday I meet someone that writes about how much they love those kinds of mornings with me. It's the little things like appreciating a care free morning together, that mean the most.

A poem which is truly alive and one that resonates with me. To awake free of appointments and no expectations to meet. Certainly the best time of day. It is almost akin to being on holiday.

This poem has a lightness to it; an optimism and a natural flavour. It has genuine appeal.

Thanks for this

Keith
