The Good Old Days

The Good Old Days

Those were the good old days

but were they really halcyon days

Perhaps our memories are distorted

as my parents faces became contorted

The good old days had their problems too

not unlike those suffered by me and you

They were not spent in sunny meadows

but in the darkness of wartime shadows

Those were the good old days

but people experienced them in different ways

Death and destruction were common place

it has been the same always in time and space

Let us not hanker after the the past

as if the best of times then did last

Today is no better or wrorse for us

than it was for those who lived afore us

Very true Keith, even though whenever I look back I adjust my glasses to full rose- tinted mode! ?

Thank you, Keith. I am a sucker for nostalgia (New Wave films, Thirties' music and architecture etc) but I agree that we should not hanker after some non-existent golden age, because it almost certainly never existed.
