Ghost Race

Grand National Day, but it's not the same.
No fans arriving, by River, Tunnel or plane.
No punters in the bookies without a clue!
Those once a year type, including me too!
Placing bets online, nowhere near the fun.
I'm a traditionalist, when all said and done!
The City Centre would be heaving for sure.
Hotels bursting with visitors on every floor.
But more important, its Aintree's day to me.
An day in the limelight, get its face on TV!
A great boost for the local shops and pubs.
All around L9, awash with betting stubs!
A National without fans, hopefully no more.
A ghost of a race, without that Aintree roar!

It must be even stranger seeing the area without the usual excitement than just seeing the race on TV without spectators.

I will be tuning in to watch, having placed a few bets to add to the interest. Maybe there is a plus of sorts insofar that the absence of
the usual huge crowds and its attendant hullabaloo will take some of
the stress of the horses and let them gallop around in much the same
way that they might at home on the gallops. But, that said, roll on next year when the craic returns! ?
