DIED IN VAIN

entry picture

One hundred thousand victims who have died this lonely death

Some on ventilators, some gasping for their breath

One hundred thousand victims who no longer are now here

And millions more of kith and kin who’ve shed their bitter tears

But you have drunk and popped your pills and danced the night away

At secret raves throughout the land; I’ve often heard you say

“Self-isolation’s not for us.  It’s gone beyond a joke.

We’re young, we’re strong so we’ll not die and Covid’s all a hoax”.

One hundred thousand families - you shit upon their pain

One hundred thousand victims who it seems have died in vain.

Quite right, MC. I wouldn’t want Nigel Farage doing brain surgery on me either.

JC - I think I'd prefer a specialist operating on my brain rather than an expert. ?

Thanks, Kevin. I don’t like to get too type-cast.

Sad but true. You see them strutting around the shops not wearing a mask. Literally strutting, as if it somehow makes them clever. My blood boils.

Good to see your serious side, but I do like to hear some good old fashioned Cooley filth too.

Cheers Kevin

You may be right, MC. And if you are we will soon see Nigel Farage offering advice on Covid 19 rather than the Chief Medical and Scientific Officers. Until then I’ll stick with the “experts”.

I prefer "specialist" to "expert" as it seems that the latter is not
always compatible with practical experience.
Expert = a person whose view is personally held but will often contradict that of another expert. ?

Thank you Stephen. If it was up to me I would sentence all deniers to two weeks in a COVID ICU ward.
And thanks for the Like, Holden.

A strong poem, John. One has the right to angry sometimes.

It always pays to listen to the experts, MC. (Except on the matter of Brexit).

Those of us who are old enough will recall the tragedy of the Aids epidemic that swept continents. Its control was not helped by the
self-obsessed me-first behaviour of the criminally careless whose
uncontrolled sexual licentiousness did much to spread it. Nature
will always bite back at human abuse and carelessness.

It would be a display of base vulgarity if I were to flaunt my abilities all the time, Graham. And thanks for the Like, Stephen.

I was listening to a 23-year old young woman on BBC R4 this morning complaining of the ongoing effects of 'long Covid' that she was experiencing. These messages should be plastered over billboards everywhere to warn the young and reckless that they may be storing up a lifetime of debilitating trouble for themselves, to which God forbid, death might seem a better option.

Good to see this serious side JC, reminds us what a good poet you can be!

Possibly the angriest thing I’ve ever written, MC.

Strong stuff - but with its justification in the light of what seems to
happen around the country.
