The Wind Has Always Been

The Wind has Always Been

Love has not always been.  Peace certainly not.

My spirit has waxed and waned in my human heart.

Family.  Family is but an idea no more real than the clouds

But the wind, the wind has always been, and with her there is no doubt.

In the fields as a child when I was wrestling with my spirit

She carried You fast to me - close that I may hear it

And to the damp moors of England with her endless chill and freeze

To the wildlands of Africa where she bounced the chameleons in the trees

She carried You in the streets of San Vito and the ports of Brindisi

And she said hello in Rome, and through the rest of Italy

She found me again in America cooling down the Vegas nights

And drew me to the Canyon where the earth was red and bright

She played with me in Virginia and in Florida twirled me ‘round

I ended up in Phoenix and there we planted in the ground

She blasted me with sand by day and whispered calmly in the night

The wind that always was brought peace and Your delight.

Again in Florida, she was balmy and I could hardly breath

But oh the lush of sunset with that salty tropical breeze!

You sat with me in Melbourne as the wind awoke the sun

Older had I gotten but the Wind was always young.

The wind has pushed me forward beyond my limitations

And she has also thrust me back, where I found strength in altercations

My face has been whipped with lashes from her reckless skies

And also, she’s been gentle, and at times has dried my eyes.

Very few forces have been so reliable to me

Not Love nor Hate, nor Myself, nor even family;

Not health nor youth nor promises have ever stuck around

But the wind has carried You forever, from the heavens to the ground

No matter where I’ve gone nor whatever I have seen

No matter my place in life, beit a nightmare or a dream

No matter what the wind has done she has always carried my Friend

She is now and will be there blowing in my last days just like she’s always been.
